A NEAR MISS. (13/03/13)

It’s the thirteenth of the third two thousand and thirteen. All these threes with ones in front could have been unlucky. I spent ages hunting the comet last night. I never even saw the moon. Ho Hum! I thought and retired to the pub to warm up. I have found a brilliant virtual planetarium for the lap top. It is here STELLARIUM. One can pop all sorts of things on it and up they come and march about. I recommend OCEAN as a background it is brilliant fun. It is even better for being free.

It’s been a really good day today. The 5D Canon is mended and winging it’s way in my direction. The van axles are repaired and will be here on Saturday. The throttle cable is awaiting me in Darlington. Dithery Dave has dithered again so with a bit of luck there will be no minimum price on alcohol. Beer pricing has gone the way of Badger hunting and selling off trees and the dozens of other barmy ideas he comes up with. The bloke does have a few good points. Commitment and leadership are not among them….thank the Pope!…..Just forgot…..We are Popeless at the moment. Anyone noticed?

As it’s clouding over again I decided to dine out at the pub to celebrate my good fortune. A good lunch, a brilliant lunch. Scotch Eggs in Black Pudding. It had a Rocket salad to accompany it so very healthy.

We came out of the pub relaxed and replete. I leapt for the pavement dragging the dogs after me. I heard the reversing buzzer thingy on a lorry. Right next to my ear it was………….It was…………………………….

_V0G5923_edited-1   This little devil of a Starling. Perfect imitators are Starlings. Pity laundry is not in it’s repertoire.

I did promise a few days ago to squash up the daffodils.

_V0G5920_edited-1        What a good show now no bald patches here on the promenade at Ravenglass.

_V0G5921_edited-1          The Crocus are fully open and look a real treat.

It’s been a good day with two exceptions. No blasted comet and the Rooks have learnt how to get at my fat ball feeder.

If the weather is clear enough then I’ll go cometing later but it is not looking good.

That’s all for today.

  1. You need to keep your wits about you Adrian, those reversing Starlings could squash you in an instant!!

Looks like things are coming together now, the camera's fixed, the van's almost fixed and you can restock your cellar for a modest outlay, it just needs a Pope's blessing and the jobs a good'n!!

The daffs and crocuses are looking good in the sunshine...[;o)

    1. Trevor, little bugger....had me going. I should take more notice of the dogs.....they knew it was just a bird, I was the only one out of our trio to wet myself. Could be just an age thing...no worries

You watch....the slimy little devil will stuff a fifty percent increase on all booze in the budget. I wouldn't trust him to mind the till in a corner shop. Nor non of his ilk bent as a two bob note and spineless with it.

  4. So glad dopey Dave's done another reversal. The man's enough to drive anyone to drink.
Excellent focus on the first daffs Adrian; and I've just noticed the date. No wonder I've had a crap day today.

  8. Same conditions here for planet viewing...lots of cloud. So today you were not up early and out in the cold! The flowers blooming are a good indication of spring and more.

  9. Just downloaded the virtual planetarium, good fun and shall have a play later. Why do they insist on putting rocket with salads, as the darned stuff always seems to get stuck in your throat. Glad things are all getting fixed, and the daffodil pics are very good. Have a good one.

    1. Gary, don't forget to put your Latitude and Longitude in or else it won't work.

  10. Miss the daffodils. Apparently the garden in Eagleton is awash with them.

Don't get me started on starlings!

Now the world has a humble Pope. First for 1300 years. Hmmm.

  11. I keep hoping for a glimpse of the comet. Many days have had periods of clear blue sky but every day it has clouded over just before dark.

Remember when Starlings used to imitate those trim phones?

    1. John, it was clear enough a couple of nights ago. I found the moon but couldn't find the comet. Someone did post a picture of it taken from just up the coast at Whitehaven. It wasn't worth looking at on that photograph.

      Starlings are amusing birds.
