SATURDAY–PART ONE. (28/09/13)

After yesterdays fiasco with macro I sorted out where I went wrong and wandered off to get my confidence back.

_V0G7646 A Dandelion seed head.

_V0G7647 A Blackberry. These are both okay and shot at 1/250s and f16.

I then went looking for insects but non would pose for long enough. I did find a dead Crane Fly, carried it carefully back to the van trying to ensure that no important bits fell off.

_V0G7652    Crane fly at 1:1. These will all enlarge full screen with a click.

_V0G7651     At 2:1. I can see the separate lenses in it’s eyes. Not good but the best I’ve had so far.

_V0G7650     At 3:1. The end of it’s wing. I should have kept it and taken all it’s bits at three times life size or in it’s case dead size.

The first bit of Garrett video is in the can…..that’s an expression we pro video takers use. The last train comes through here at 4pm or thereabouts. I suspect I’ll be posting the finished film tomorrow but if YouTube are good maybe earlier. I’ve looked at the rushes…..that’s another pro expression…..They look much better than Thursdays. Today a Garrett tomorrow Uma Thurman.

Have fun.

  1. These are all spectacular. When I enlarged the Dandelion seed head I noticed something tiny and dark on it. Maybe it's a gnat? I should remember what you call it but my brain refuses to function at fully this morning.

I love the color and light on the blackberry. And the way the focus fades to the parts in the background. It gives the picture a lot of depth.

No doubt all parts of the dragonfly are interesting but none can compete with the wings for beauty.

Yesterday was not a fiasco as far as I'm concerned. It was just different.

    1. David, it's a tiny spider.
The focus fade comes with the territory. Depth of field on macro and micro lenses is only a few millimeters at best. There is focus stacking software to get round the problem.
This is a Crane Fly or Daddy Longlegs....not as pretty as a Dragonfly.
You are very polite, it was a disaster.

    1. Laura, que está muerto y no es peligroso. Ellos son muy venenosas, pero no pueden picar a través de la piel humana.
      Un abrazo.

  3. Although these are all top quality, the dandelion seed stands out for me as it seems to depict a firework display ... very original.

    1. Jay, the ring flash comes up trumps now and again. I like the image I may have another go with some coloured card for a background.

    1. Bob, yes you could. It is easier than taking your bird shots.

  5. Hi Adrian... Well here I am , and hoping that this time it will work!!
These are real stunner, I could even see cobwebs on those berries , although that fly is a bit gross still a great one : )
Been looking at your post about every day, but hoping today will be the day that I can say some great post !! Loved the video, and was surprised judging by what you look like that your voice would be deep, and gruff ; ) lol!!
The funky chicken was a great one!!

    1. Grace I find insects incredibly beautiful....The dead ones are more co-operative ! The chicken should have been the star of the week but for the steam engines. Poor bird.

    1. Keith, I only took the Dandelion to check flash balance. Once I'd got down to it's level I struggled to get up so took a few more of it.

  10. As I've said before I enjoy macro photos. You see detail that you could never see with the naked eye. I've looked up where you are in wales. what a beautiful country.

    1. Thank you Margaret, still room for improvement. These are hand held. I do have a macro plate and plenty of lights so I'll try for some focus stacked insects if i find a nice dead one.
