LET IT RAIN, LET IT RAIN. (22/06/14)

Let it pour, see if I care.  I judged it to perfection this morning. We were out for an hour and didn’t get wet.

I didn’t get wet yesterday lunchtime either but it was a close run thing. Three off us performed for a coachload of travellers as they went from the charabanc into the pub for lunch. I was the only foreign whistle player in the orchestral section, I was the only whistle player, the other member of the backing band was older than me but can play a mean fiddle. The dancer was the star but she agreed to split the tips equally. Well the band agreed and she concurred.

We were not allowed to put a bucket down and seed it with a couple of twenty pound notes and a tenner. The waitresses get the tips. They are then split between the entertainers, the kitchen staff and the front of house people. The bus comes from Ullapool and sometimes it is full of Americans, sometimes Chinese and occasionally Japanese. On a good day the staff can get twenty pounds each. Yesterday the coach was full of Mancunians. We got £1.73p each, there was 9p left over . The lifeboat box got that. I got a couple of free pints, had a good time so what the hell. I didn’t like to say what part of England I came from but Rosie the campsite operations executive shopped me. Sheffield, Manchester it’s all the same to folk up here.

_MG_2471   The dogs never tire of chasing each other in the wavelets.

_MG_2468    I too love watching waves playing.

_MG_2464    They are better than the television. Even a black and white Television.

_MG_2475   This is Mollies Passport photograph in case the vote goes against England. Unfortunately I can see it doing so. Dithery et al are almost as annoying as the Blackheaded Gull on the van roof. I’ll have to feed it, it is poking it’s head through the skylight and shouting. Bad bird. I have tamed them, now all I have to do is impose a bit of discipline.

I’ll have a shot at getting it’s picture for tomorrow. More work, cleaning tobacco residue from my posh skylight and breaking bread up for gulls.

They have started following me around. Rosie said I heard what you said to those gulls. The proper words are…….. ‘ Away with youse’.

Have a good week.

  1. Well you brought it on yourself Adrian. If you will feed the gulls. I used to stay in the Royal Highland Hotel at Inverness Station and it was the worst place in the world for the seagulls which plagued the roof. In the days before double glazing the racket would awaken the dead (and often did). I stopped staying there.

Your crop of photos this morning is superb.

As for the annoying statements of Dithery et al the 'Yes' lobby must be over the moon. I haven't yet decided whether my head or my heart is going to win the argument but every time the politicians open their mouthes the decision is made that one step more difficult.

    1. Graham thanks. I've always bean a head man but how ever much I have fought it the heart ruled.
I hate a right wing government. They are just self serving. Putting contracts out to their mates for what should be civil servants jobs. It's Thatcher all over again. Line ones pockets at the expense of the needy. If the commercial world was any good and had imagination it wouldn't need the ditherys of this world. We pay Hague a fortune to be boring and issue non-statements. No-one listens as they fall asleep listening to the tosser.
I'm going to act totally stupid. It seems to work for everybody from the royal idiots down to anyone in the second chamber.
It's not hard Salmond is a nice bloke. Dithery is a complete twat.

  4. Great shots of the dogs enjoying themselves, the last one is so real I can almost feel my feet sinking into the sand.

Just your luck to get a bunch of Mancunians.
I was staying at a cheap hotel in North Ayrshire last month and had half a sob story from the barman / waiter / cooked breakfast maker. He was telling me over a pint how that the Americans are their best customers. Half watching an uninteresting Scottish football playoff match on the big screen, I failed to notice him rotating with consistent and meticulous precision, the large metal tip tin on the bar counter. He obviously didn't know that I was an ordinary punter, wasn't there for golf, business or didn't even understand why I was there. He also didn't know that I couldn't find a suitably priced B&B in the area that were going to charge me for two people and that I decided to leave my faith in a cut price deal at booking.com for a change.

  7. That's got to be classed as a good night Adrian...an enjoyable experience, free beer and £1.73p to the good...can't be bad?

  8. I'd better not mention we've gone six days without a drop of rain.
Waves is a subject I've never tried but the coast line is very flat here. The tide can go out a mile in places.

    1. Frances, I used to play once or twice a week at one time. My fingers are getting too bent and stiff these days so I can only play slowish things.

  11. I wish I looked as good in my passport photo as Molly does in hers. It's a wonder she is standing still with her feet sinking into the sand like that. Good luck with the gull training.

I'll try and find a stick for the gulls but there aren't any trees here.

  12. Okay, you play the whistle but don't you need a joke teller too? Could the joke teller be you?
You are in a very attractive place. Yes we see the busloads of tourists too. A busload parked beside me when I was away. One said "Bald eagle! They all oohed and aahed but what they were watching was a raven. I had seen the bald eagle but it was gone by the time the tourists showed up.
