A GOOD MORNING. (12/12/14)

I am enjoying myself up here on the edge of Rannoch Moor. The weather has calmed down and we had a good wander at first light. I didn’t wander far as there are between six inches and three feet of soft new snow which makes life hard work.

_MG_1070      Apart from the dogs, a few rabbits, the odd artic hare and scavenging red deer I’m all on my own from 1630h till just before nine in the morning when the staff at the ski resort arrive. Here they come.

_MG_1071       The snow plough leading the way.

_MG_1078         Closer and closer. It is a JCB backhoe with a floating blade to clear the snow. It does a good job.

_MG_1077        This is the most important member of staff arriving; the young lady who cooks breakfast and makes coffee.

_MG_1080The crew bus had to be towed up the hill today.

_MG_1076       I do have Ben Mhor for company but he is not very chatty.

_MG_1091        The dogs love the snow but it is still a bit soft for them. Hopefully it will harden up over the next few days.

_MG_1088         Blue sky, I was hoping for some sunshine but it is snowing hard again and the wind is picking up.

_MG_1092                    My weather station is not much help…..it’s frozen up.

I’m going to play around in Blender. I have got yesterdays swirly things looking much better, they are thinner and more opaque. I think they will work fine now.

Have a great weekend.

  1. HI Adrian these snow scenes are wonderful. The back of your van is frozen but I do hope you are warm inside it. The dogs certainly like the snow. Do you have breakfast with the lady who makes it at the ski resort? Anyway, have a great weekend and don't get snowed in!!!

    1. Mersad, the snow is very soft so difficult to walk in. It should be minus six tonight so hopefully it will harden up and compress a bit. The dogs drag half of it into the camper.

  4. Bloody hell Adrian, you sure put yourself into some daring situations!...it looks a bit cold and bleak up there, I guess it'll look fantastic when(??) the sun comes out?
At least the dogs look like they're enjoying it?
    Stay safe...and warm!!...[;o)

    1. Trevor, it's not too cold out of the wind and I have four layers on.
At least the dogs can't get going fast enough to chase the deer. I saw two last night but from the hoof prints this morning there must have been a dozen wandering around.

    1. R. Mac, It's a good job I had them clipped. They love playing in it but it does stick to them when it's fresh.

  6. When I flew from New York to Copenhagen on February 1, 1969, as our plane went right over Scotland all one could see was an endless expanse of dazzling white. I wondered what it looked like at ground level and how it felt to live there. Thank you for enlightening me, even at this late date.

    1. Bob, it is as you say white. This is only the second or third snowfall this winter. In another week or so they will get better at clearing it from the roads and parking areas.
It's fine to live in as long as you have some warm clothing and can keep it dry.

  8. Fascinating to see the moon so visible in the images. The statue is growing on me, I reckon with some more snow and sun it will look different with the light bouncing of the snow. Stay warm and safe

    1. Douglas, on first aquaintance I wasn't impressed but it is growing on me as well. Yes sunshine would be good. I don't have to be anywhere until a week on Sunday so there is no rush.

  9. Love your snow, keep it, lol. I like to look at snow, but, that is enough.
You dogs are really enjoyed it.

  10. Those dogs look soooo happy. They remind me of,the foreign boys we had when my late husband was a housemaster. Some had never seen snow. They were terribly excited.

    1. Frances, I have less control over the dogs than usual. The saving grace is that they can't move very fast in deep snow.

    1. Keith, yes I came to the right place though they have snow at low level in the Cairngorms so it wouldn't have mattered where I'd gone.

  12. You have some vicious weather. How do you keep warm in your motor home? Or do you exist at much lower temperatures?

    1. Red, I have climate control and also a gas fired hot air system but I've only had to use it once so far this year.

  13. Nasty weather.. darn winter! Your pooches look adorable covered in snowballs. It's for that reason that I refer to my past neighbour's similarly coated pooch as "Velcro"... everything stuck to her. So cute. Enjoy your pixel pushing.
