I’M A LOONY. (04/12/14)

Yesterday or the day before John at MIDMARSH JOTTINGS posted some fractal pictures which were impressive. I am having trouble keeping up with the Mac applets but whatever bowl of fruit Apple come up with I have so far managed to replicate. This is my Droste barometer and I worked out how to do it in just five hours using Ultra Fractal. My head is spinning so I'll give blender 3D a rest today and sit and watch the rain.

Fractal1 Now I have sorted the workflow I hope the next one can be done in an hour. I’ll try a much bigger one so that I can animate it by zooming in and then just loop it as a GIF. This one I rendered out at 500 iterations it could have done with three or four times as many as the frame is a bit choppy. Some of it is probably down to my using the quick selection brush and not cleaning up the selection. Not to worry it is a minor detail.

That’s all for today, have fun.

    1. John, I have the time and the inclination. Ultra Fractal is a bit awkward but very powerful.

  2. So Adrian, another new venture for you.....looking into the distance for a long range weather forecast? Looks easy to me.....if things don't change they'll stay as they are!

Clever work and a great result...[;o)

    1. Trevor you have sussed it. Snow is forecast for Saturday so I'll probably head up to Rannoch Moor.

      I just enjoy messing around.

    1. Peter, I like mastering different software. I rarely do, I get so far and think It's near enough.

  5. Adrian, I think you inhabit a parallel universe from the one I'm in...

    1. Frances, if we were all on the same track then there would be gridlock.

  6. It just occurred to me that you were probably born forty years too early Adrian. Your passion for image technology might have found you in a lucrative graphical business. You'd be driving around in an open-topped Audi with the wind in your hair and money in your bank.

    1. YP, I was too active forty years ago. This is a great hobby but would be a stressful business. I would also need to have original ideas. I just mimic projects I see.

Audi...Never....It would have to be an Aston Martin.

    1. Carolann, almost nailed it. I'll have to settle down and do half a dozen with this software. Ultra Fractals is fine but it is one on it's own as far as menus and tools are concerned. I haven't really scratched the surface yet.

    1. R. Mac, I blame the weather. I do get a lot of satisfaction from persuading software to dance to my tune.

    1. Red, I first tried this software in June but couldn't understand it. I am on the right track now.

  11. Is Ima Loony related to Uma Thurman? ;) Your 5-hour fractal was well worth the effort involved! It is magical and takes me to Alice's Wonderland.

    1. Glo, I don't want to be related to Uma but I would like to get to know her.

There are still bits of the procedure that I'm not sure of but I'll try a few more and I'll sort it now.

  12. wow...after reading the features and watching one tutorial...I'm blown away by Blender. I thought Photoshop was intimidating.

    1. R. Mac, this is done in Ultra Fractal. I find it worse than Blender.
I'm used to Photoshop so use it for the bits it can do.
I love manipulation software, Blender has a Node Editor so learning to use Nodes is this winters project,

  13. A good result. I did look at the proggy but I think the cost is OTT for the full works.

    1. John, it is very powerful but I still have trouble fine tuning in it.
I suspect I was ripped off. A pity the Forge plug-in won't plug in to CS6.
