DUG IN FOR CHRISTMAS (23/12/10)

We are in Ravenglass. for a couple of days or so. I love this place. The ducks are ducks but with my new found powers of observation not your run of the mill Mallard……….Posh ducks. We will be back in February.

Still not got any decent rubber on the camper but no worries we are getting about. Arrived here and was greeted like a long lost frein’….pain in the neck. Time to reinvent myself I suspect.

We got sorted grabbed dogs and camera and went for a wander down to the estuary.

Big surprise…………………..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    Always a difficult decision but I'll guess at a Pochard…………….If I'm lucky a Red Breasted Pochard. Here are a few more on the wing………….that’s absurd………the wing is on the bird…………..

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    Why do they take off and disappear, antisocial it is………So is having a dump in the sea…………Birds will be birds……….it’s just under the pair together if you doubt me.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA        Or maybe they just don’t like dogs sharing their domain.

Not only did I see Chaffinch, Robin, Blackbird, Jay and numerous little jobs whose pictures I will endeavour to take. I also saw these…………

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA       Not your common tufted duck but an altogether superior duck. The Merganser. Lord protect me from my ignorance. I hope I'm getting better. if not then let me know. I am trying!

Still waiting for the long lens back but it is mended……………Thank you Sigma cheap at just over a hundred pounds. Considering it fell off a table and was dropped in the sea.

Try not to get too ratted but if you do hold it like a gentleman…………that applies to the ladies as well. Not easy, as you know!

Have fun, Merry Christmas.

  2. Methinks the first lot are Wigeon; and the Red-breasted Merganser is a cracker. Nice one.

Have a very enjoyable Christmas Adrian; whatever you are doing.

  3. Hope you don't have to dig out when you leave.
Great to see there are some different birds for you to go at.

Have a dry warm Christmas Adrian and keep the new toys away from the edge of the table.

  4. Bob, kind of you to say but I know Different.

Keith, are you sure...........Cos you are! I just knew I'd blew it.. Happy Christmas. Seriously this is a good place for birds. Sellafield keeps the sea warm.

John can't dig out as I lent my shovel a month ago and the thieving little bas.....d has never lent it back. Great to see different ducks.
The cameras are now dumped in a big plastic box under the table.

Emma, This is a magical winter. The ones of my childhood always seemed like this. Digging sheep out of drifts lighting diesel fires under pipes. Eating porridge three times a day...........perhaps not wonderful but at least we thought Devon was hot on our August holiday.
A Very Merry Christmas to you and yours.

  6. Happy Christmas Adrian. I've loved reading your posts about your travels and the accompanying photographs..... and what a life Alfie and his friend has! The life of Riley, I'd say. They're two lucky little doggies (sorry I can't remember Alfie's companion's name).

Jay, i have a load of photographs from last year. If you want to ride on the footplate you buy a normal ticket and go for a pass in the signal box. It's the same price but not advertised. You being a railway fan may enjoy it. happy Christmas to you too.
