FLASHING IN THE PARK (15/10/11)

We were out early this morning, a beautiful clear sky and our first frost.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   Not much of a frost but it was a little nippy on the fingers.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe moon was there in these shots but this moon was shot separately. It’s just too small unless you catch it just as it’s rising or setting.

That’s that job done, now for some flashing.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERANo flash on this one as I couldn’t get round to the door fast enough.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    Flash on this one. Two bursts inside and two outside. Not really worth the effort.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERABack inside and up the stairs.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  Looking north over Buxton.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Looking east down the wye valley. Someone will have got some great misty shots this morning. I was in the wrong place but not to worry it was a great start to the day.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     I did intend waiting for the sun but I was freezing and the dogs needed a run. We were almost back at the van before it deigned to bless us with it’s presence. I’m glad I didn’t wait, there is not enough cloud to make for a spectacular dawn.

That’s all for today, I’m moving on Monday, I’m not sure where yet. There are lots of Small Tortoiseshell flitting around I’ve seen them on warm days in January. Where they hide is a mystery. They are all in perfect condition so probably just hatched.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA      Small Tortoiseshell.

Enjoy Sunday.

  1. I too was up before dawn but plonked in front of the TV watching the Korean GP qualifying. You definietly had the better idea even if it was cold. Now the sun is shining and I should be out of doors but Liverpool are playing Manchester United so I'm back in front of the TV...

  4. Yea, it was a cold one this morning! Have to search out the gloves.

I'm amazed too, how these butterflies appear as soon as the sun shows. No idea where they hide.
Love the golden colour of the sun; it was pretty spectacular this morning.

  5. Perhaps it's because I'm in just the right mood or some other reason but I've spent a lot of time looking at this post. More than most. And I'm still not quite sure why.

I think that the 4th photo is wonderful because the foreground doesn't stop or hinder the eye from focusing on the town in the distance through the window. I think the 5th is superfluous (but I think you've already decided that yourself).

The two misty 'landscapes' really sucked me into them and I could actually feel myself there.

All in all, Adrian, you have one very contented admirer here.

  6. Yet a sunny day but cool early morning with frost as your first photo captures so well...

  7. John, a couch footballer are you. The best sort to be. It was a good morning after the last week or more.

    Bob, thank you.

Hilda, I enjoy popping moons in. Thank you.

Keith, ta. I even saw a peacock in February this year..........amazing! It was a good dawn but it didn't set the world on fire.

Graham, yes the flash was not what I wanted. It needed to be darker and before i've taped card round the strobe......like a snoot but cheaper. I forgot. The mist was grand......i just wish I'd been closer......someone will have got it.
    Thanks for the compliment.

Dee Bee, the sun is rising but it doesn't matter. A beautiful autumn day.

  10. Up before dawn - you might as well be a farmer! Mind you, I do have some vague recollections of lovely pre-dawn sights. Someone has to be out to capture them, might as well be you, I guess. I really like the two looking north and east.

  12. Andrew, it's a pity the industrial estates spoil the views in other directions.

    Grace, many thanks.

Pauline, I'm always up before dawn. I'm not always out though.......thanks and enjoy your week.

Trevor, I get it. It's getting gloves time. It is, Small Tortoiseshells can be seen year round if the temperature rises.....14C I read is the temperature.

  20. Nice shots, Adrian. Like the dawn over Buxton. Was up there for the first time earlier this year, although we didn't see much of the area as it was hidden under a blanket of thick snow!
