THE CRYSTAL BALL (23/12/11)

It’s cold and raining constantly today so it’s a good job I had a crystal ball and took plenty of images yesterday in what turned out to be a brief clement spell.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    The Crystal Ball…………It’s actually a Campbell Stokes Sunlight Recorder. I spent ages messing with it trying to get a decent image of Chatsworth House reflected in it. Hopeless. I never noticed the bird muck on it either. That’s me in the middle.

_C220102_3_4_5_6_fused_edited-1  A bit of the house. The bit I did manage to get a bad reflection of.

_C220187_88_89_90_91_tonemapped_edited-1 Another corner of the garden.

_C220197_198_199_200_201_tonemapped_edited-1  Chatsworth Maze. It is amazingly complex if you’ll excuse the pun.

_C220202_3_4_5_6_tonemapped_edited-1This modern screen I took a fancy to.

To finish up today I have a couple of stitched images.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe Emperor Fountain.

chat2212 The view down the park from the house looking north or thereabouts. I know it has a lot of grass. I did it on purpose. I wanted to convey space. This will pop up large with a click.

Tomorrow I’m moving up to Bolton Abbey for Christmas. I was going to Ravenglass but there has been a change of plan. I will have to go and do a shop……I’m dreading it.

  4. I love that shot of the maze Adrian.
    Good luck with the shops.
All I can say is thank goodness for the internet. Haven't been to my city centre in over 5 years.

  11. A series of shots to be proud of. I'd be fascinated with the crystal ball as well. And I like that reflection shot, those trees look like they're kind of balancing - you know, like those toy figures you push and they keep swaying and staying upright. Wish you a good Christmas - and not too much of a crowd in the shops!

  12. Hilary, thank you and there is no such thing as a happy shopping.

Ruby, it has a great deal of history. It isn't all that old though.

Trevor, I thought the screen was squre tube TIG welded or brazed but I could do with another look.

Keith, I will find a twenty four hour supermarket and hit it long before dawn.

JoLynne, it is a wonderful garden. Things hiding round every corner.

DeeBee, it is a very appealing bit of work. I suspect I'll need something stronger than tea after shopping.

Andrew it is..........be better without the hoards of people.

John, I first looked and thought it was a bit of very competent fabrication. It could be cast. iron. I'll make a note to have another look in March.

    Bob, many thanks.

Hilda, yes it is wonderful. I'll do my best to be merry.

Monica, the gardens are extensive and amazingly they seem to seemlessly transform from the formal to the wild and rugged.
You have a good Christmas and all the best for next year.

  13. Amazing scenes, love the reflection & texture on the maze ... solved from the side you photographed from ! There was a sculpture exhibition on when I was there & they were preparing exhibits in cordoned off areas, consequently I missed the modern screen. There's another image in amongst your set that I recognise ;-)

  15. Another set of great HDRs. Either your colour spectrum has altered ever so slightly or you are converting me!

We managed to do the maze albeit with quite a few glitches along the way.

Fabulous modern screen. I don't remember it at all so I assume it's quite recent.

Gillian, It will clear up soon. Probably around June for a week or so.

Graham, I have toned them down a bit.....a lot. There are a few modern pieces scattered around. I am always in a rush here. get ahead ofthe crowds and attempt to stay there.

Horst, It does cost a fortune. It's worth it.
