A FURRY FRIEND. (04/10/12)

It’s a wonderful day…..not a cloud in the sky but it was a touch frosty first thing. I am doing some overdue laundry and later some log milling. The miller is away to retrieve a long chainsaw blade from the saw doctor. So a quick post.

PA044193_4_5_6_7_tonemapped_edited-1   First Light.

pan0410 and again.

Untitled_Panorama1 All in all a great start to the day marred by my having to wander around with baler twine tying up the bottom of my jeans……No I’m not incontinent…..Well, not often. No, I’m worried about about this little chap running up my trouser leg.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA A Brown Rat…..they live in the Bul Rushes, I’m surprised as there are a family of Stoats here. Stoats can’t be eating rats, perhaps they only eat rabbits.

Right, I must hang my washing out…..see you soon.

  1. Beautiful images. How amazing to take a portrait of a rat. We haven't had frost yet.

    1. They are better than squirrels. They can't climb the bird feeder.

  2. A wondrous dawning ~ I especially love the second one, although the photo with the horse is also a beauty. I see a heart-shape in your third photo where the burnished leaves are gathered. Yes, binder twine or a tuck of jeans into into sock tops would be my thought as well... could be spiders and all sorts of climby-up creatures in that grass ;) A great start to your day and hope it continued to be bright and beautiful.

  4. Oh, how I wish we were allowed to hang out our laundry here in the mobile home park! There is nothing like the fresh smell.
The first image is stunning! I don't like rats, but that was a great capture.
    wishes for a wonderful weekend!

  5. I will have to look up what brown rats are. Yes , I wouldn't like finding them up my pant leg. We have field mice and at times they will travel up a pant leg.

    1. They are like a big mouse. They carry disease but are harmless and intelligent wee creatures. Like mice they are incontinent.

  6. Nice sunrise captures. You always take the best shots. Glad you had sun and no rain today. I like the horse on the left side of the first shot. And the rat is cute:)

  7. You will have to get some more fashionable jeans Adrian - the ones with elasticated bottoms ;)

Love the Sun through trees with horse photo - tricky exposure that one, I guess.

The horse and sun is HDR. I did try flash for the foreground but had it too high and the horse cleared off. I should know by now only to have it set to about half power.

  10. Rats are very intelligent and tame ones are also very endearing. Unfortunately the rest give them a very bad name.

  11. I wonder how long you had to sit there before that little rat got brave enough to have a look at you. Like your gentle first light.

    1. Pauline, about two hours over a couple of days. I ended up bribing it with a couple of peanuts. For this shot it only took about ten minutes.
