ABOUT ME

I live in a camper van with a West Highland Terrier for company.
My passion is creating images but it is a work in progress.
I am always willing to share what knowledge I have and can be contacted through the comments on this post or e-mail ADRIAN

TRENCH FOOT. (17/10/12)

This weather is getting me down. It could be worse, it could be raining constantly. It could be grey and dismal between the downpours. It doesn’t seem two minutes since we were being threatened with dehydration and death. The farmer here is considering sowing rice or turning all is land over to a fish farm.

I have decided to spend the winter in Scotland and take pictures to the very best of my ability on film. I’ve been busy this last few days ploughing through thousands of images and binning all but the best. Almost without exception these have been taken with prime lenses. I suspect that using these and spot metering makes me more considerate.

I will keep blogging because I enjoy it and it is a record of my ups and downs. I will also enter competitions so that I can better appreciate the rights and wrongs of what I am doing.

There is only one photograph for today.

beechpan     Same view…different light. I could be stuck in a much worse place.

The other day the outside temperature thingy stopped working on the camper. I knew I had a diode to measure temperature…..I suspect they all do.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  The transistor is the wee thing next to the pen. I have got myself a pair of tweezers as all these bits are a little small for my fingers. They have also improved my eyebrows a treat so two pounds fifty pence well spent.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   Here it is working away.

image    Brilliant……all I have to do now is plug the Arduino into my laptop and I can tell if I’m too hot or too cold to two decimal places. The 20.31 reading is where I grabbed it with my fingers to see if it was working.

I’m going back to the crossword, have a good day.

  1. That's a pretty big puddle - I think it might be getting bigger! It looks a lovely light though.I hope the weather will be kind to you in Scotland - up here on the west coast we've had a real mixture. Woke up this morning to a ground frost and a scattering of snow on the peaks.
I would love to have a couple of prime lenses, but must wait - I've spent enough for this year!

    1. Annie, If I get a few good days in Scotland I'll be happy.
Your local camera man will have some secondhand German lenses. Adapters should be available. You probably won't be able to use wide angle or get them for your camera. So it's propriety brand I suspect.

  2. Hi Adrian...You are so cute with your tales of woe, I always like to read what you are up to! A that is a nice photo water an all!
It sounds like your up to your ears in water :( But if that water freezes it will make some great ice skating spots : )
I would love to spent the winter in Scotland, but I wouldn't want to have to go through all that to see if I was to hot or cold..you do like those gadgets don't you!!
Hey we had a earthquake in my area last night,4.5 on the scale!! The house was shaking, it sounded like a freight train rumbling with twice its sound through the basement of the house..scared the----out of me!!
It probably would have tipped your camper over : }}} No damage at my place except for my nerves !!

    1. I can usually tell if I'm hot, cold, wet or dry. Not always though.
Glad you survived the earthquake and I'm glad the door survived as well.

  4. Lots of water, but a beautiful picture. Nice that you are getting some bright breaks between the rain. Our weather here which has been brilliant has now reverted to the normal cloudy, rainy pattern for this time of year.
Amazes me the things you can do with a circuit board. Have a great day, and thanks for your amusing comment on my post Adrian.

    1. Gillian, I can do very little with a circuit board. Others can though.

  5. Beautiful photo of the puddle, Adrian. Greetings from Montreal, Canada. The puddle reminds me of a puddle I saw here in the Montreal area, and there were a couple of geese in it. Thanks for sharing.

  7. I can tell you're getting tired of the rain and wet. Really like your new high tech temperature gauge.
Spending the winter in Scotland? Isn't that me spending my winter in Yellowknife?

It's the code writing that's hard.

  11. Hang in there. I like you blogging as well. You take the best landscape shots. Maybe a little migration to some exotic location for a bit would make you feel better:) I know how you feel as I had that kind of down when living in the colder rainier temps of Wisconsin. Sun is a must:)

  12. Lucky you, Adrian. Pick up your house and travel!

As for the temperature gauge, I usually know whether I’m feeling hot or cold. It comes naturally. I wouldn’t have the faintest idea how to organise your complicated thingy.

I have little clue as to what I'm doing with the Arduino. Passes time during the wet bits of the day.
