CHARITY. (24/11/12)

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA                            A Corner of Ullswater taken in March 2010.

Roll on winter, another cold damp day here. The photo above was taken on a good day, a proper cold winters day.

We have a new Archbishop of Canterbury. He is  in charge of the Church of England. He is much like the Prime Minister, Dithery.has been away in Europe this week snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

They think they are in charge but the head of the Church of England. The head of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth is Her majesty the Queen. About time she showed a bit of leadership and commercial acumen. We subjects are hungry and could well become revolting. She could usefully start by grabbing a bit of loot from the Aussies…..We could do with some of their Wealth…..In the unlikely event that she does something useful and goes begging I’ll leave the Common bit  for a later debate.

The new Archbishop is Justin (Oil) We(l)lerby. A man who emigrated from the city and oil industry for more lucrative pastures.

He is in for a rough ride…I admire him for being in favour of  Bishopresses, he is a bit homophobic. Gays aren’t predatory so if you aren’t interested just keep your shirt tucked in…..  I don’t know whether he believes in God…!…I have not noticed his comments on that…..Could be me…I can get distracted at times and miss the plot.

It has been a big debate this week, he lost! Good job he didn’t take on the job at Chelsea Football Club. The managers there don’t get a second chance.

Some in the church are against lady priests never mind promoting the ones they have. Priests? I thought the C of E had Vicars. That’s what I called them when I was part of the flock. Priests were the papist kiddy diddlers in my day…..I must be getting old!… Anyway it appears that despite having a woman as head of the church we can’t have them in middle management……The workings of the Lord are indeed mysterious.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   This morning we walked in freezing fog and ice to the shop……It wasn’t a good trip….the bloody dogs got excited when I slipped on the ice and I ended up sitting on my bum, a big trip. Such is life. The dogs thought it hilarious. They’ll learn when they don’t get a bit of my chicken dinner…..Wee Buggers!

I must be in favour as Bells Whisky was on offer at £15.00p for a litre and as you can see, I did my bit for charity by purchasing a bottle. I had always assumed that Help for Heroes was in aid of wounded soldiers. Now I know differently……It’s a charity that dedicates itself to carrying drunks home!…..A worthy cause!

Enjoy next week and have fun.

  1. I was going to say, I hope your bum is better, but then I thought maybe I shouldn't say a manly thing like that; so I won't.

Fifteen quid for a litre of Bells is a bargain. I paid seventeen for mine in Asda.

  2. You make cry, or laugh, or both of them. Falling over your bum, that's a classic.

  3. I appreciate your your somewhat "irreverent " comments on the "faith." There are certain inconsistencies and leaps of logic. You have picked out some of these. I like the way you say that something is OK for the top but not for middle management.

  4. Looks like you are going to celebrate the weekend for sure. Have fun, but don't fall on your arse to often, you may break something.

    1. Horst...early morning light and mist...No filters. The whiskey is supposed to last a couple of weeks but as it's for charity I may have to make an effort with it.

  6. There's a bit of that slipping going around. Wish I'd slipped backwards, more padding on my bum than on my fingers. Good rant but I hope you don't become revolting.

    1. Pauline, the dogs pull me over at least twice a year. I was walking next to the main road so they were on a lead.
It looks as if you have a broken finger...Hope it heals soon.

  7. Let me get this straight ~ you slipped and fell before drinking the falling down water? You're getting ahead of yourself ;)

  10. I had better just comment on the Ullswater picture. It takes me back to the winters in The Sixties that I used to spend in The Lake District in the days when you and your companion could have the hills to yourselves. It's a really atmospheric image.

I once attended a function and was assigned to look after protocol arrangements for Cardinal Heenan and The Rt Rev Stuart Blanch. Two more impressive people in terms of physical stature and sheer mental presence I have yet to meet. Even then, though, I wondered how they could believe in some imaginary friend in the sky who could be prayed to to attend to the minutiae of the daily lives of the billions of people on the planet, who was prayed to by each side in most of the wars in the last two millennia and in the last century alone allowed 100 million people to perish despite many of them praying to to the same deity. Come to think of it I'll stick to the Ullswater picture. Or perhaps you could pass the Bells.

  11. PS I should explain that Cardinal Heenan was the Archbishop of Liverpool's Roman Catholic population and The Rt Rev Stuart Blanch was the Bishop of Liverpool's Church of England flock. The occasion was something to do with the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral and, despite the disharmony in the Sixties between the two flocks the two leaders were, I was told, good friends.

    1. Graham, I can still walk the Lakes in winter and see only a couple of folk. I quite enjoy meeting one or two people a day. Cat Bells was an odd one. I walked up in the dark, admiring the stars got to the top and there were three of us all with tripods and cameras. Spent a good hour chatting and admiring the fog.
I love church architecture but dislike religion and what it condones and encourages. The big mistake they made was educating folk and translating the mumbo jumbo into English. Once we get the Bishops out of the House of Lords the infrastructure will crumble. It will be left as an anachronism to be viewed with amusement at Anfield....Rangers and other such places.

  12. Great photo, Adrian. Not sure gays aren't predatory, as whichever bush I go into birding, whichever public toilet I enter, there they are, approaching me. Guess I must just give off a 'gay vibe' (which is rather worrying as I'm straight as they come), or else I've just got a nice arse.

    1. Cheers Jeremy.....It must be just the Welsh gays....I don't notice many up here...I don't go to hairdressers or boutiques. They have shut public toilets in this part of the country...I have to use the bushes.
Could be your arse....take a snap and have an on-line competition..folk could give marks out of ten.
