A TALE OF TWO RIVERS. (25/08/13)

I have been in Cannich for a couple of days now and thought it was time I gave you a look at the place. It’s GP day today so I’m rushing a bit. You all know what it’s like when one has too many jobs and not enough hours in the day. It’s hot with a gentle breeze. There is not a sign of Ultravox, Thin Lizzy or there illustrious member and his followers. I thought I caught a whisper of ‘Don’t They Know it’s Christmas’ on the breeze but so far so good.

_MG_1202_3_4_tonemapped    This is the river Cannich. I stopped here to investigate as I intend coming back for the Fall colours; I use the American noun because Ortum is hard to spell.

_MG_1199_200_201_tonemapped    This is the river Glass. The former is a tributary of the latter and the river Glass flows down Glen Affric. It’s a driving job from here. I’ve left my e-mail address and phone number with the site owner and he has promised to phone at the first sign of autumn…nailed it this time.

_MG_1217_8_9_tonemapped     The Police House in Cannich.

_MG_1214_5_6_tonemapped    This one is for Red…. Heather, Rowan and the Church of Scotland.

Untitled_Panorama1     Here is the rest of it.

_MG_1224   Cannich Catholic Church.

That’s all from here, tomorrow I’m heading for Fort William for a few nights then down to Kinross to get the dogs hairs cut.

Enjoy this week.

  1. What a beautiful spot... and amazing architecture. Autumn has already begun to show her face in parts around here.

    1. Hilary, I have been very selective. Most buildings are modern timberframe. The scenery makes up for the towns.

    1. Peter, it's a grand little church. It was locked up so I couldn't see inside.

  6. Sounds like a peaceful little spot on the map. Interesting contrast between the two churches. My favorite today is the police house. It reminds me of a photo I took when we were driving around Tasmania. It was the smallest police house I imagine, in Stanley. Will go searching for the photo now, sometime this week. Have a good trip back to civilization.

    1. Carol, it is an ex-police house these days but good to see it being lived in.
I will do but feel that I'm leaving civilization.

  7. Nice architecture, I like the ivy growing on the buildings.

    1. Maria, I'm struggling to find good buildings. The ivy looks good but it is destructive.

  8. The story I like is on the police house and the Catholic church. Obviously both buildings date from far back. The style indicates some other time.

    1. Red, I suspect the buildings are Victorian so not all that old.

  9. A crying shame that Cannich Catholic Church has clearly been subject to significant subsidence over the years - as your photo shows. They should have underpinned it.

    1. YP., I'll do it again. Hoist by my own petard. I detest wonky pictures. My mind was only half on the job as it was a busy Sunday what with the GP and MotoGP. I realize you don't want excuses. They sound a little lame to me.

  10. Nice looking buildings, I really like the cop shop, wouldn't mind spending a night in there!

    1. Douglas, you probably could. I suspect it is now a B&B.

  11. Thank you for the difficult read. It is very good. I had no idea what an Ultravox was or who Thin Lizzy is/was. You and John make me google all the time. Really Adrian, Ortum? I didn't google that because I think it is Autumn and yeah that's a lot harder to spell than Ortum. Maybe you are right, Fall is better even though I get confused if I fall in the Fall, or heaven forbid, fall in Falls.

The pictures are all wonderfully real. I can't say which I like best, I like all of them best. :)
The architecture is so different from here especially the police house and Catholic church, it is just really interesting seeing them. It sure gives me some ideas if I ever get good enough in Blender to create something like that.

    1. Sorry David, I didn't want to use the word Midge.
They are just pictures so it takes a while before I can decide on a pecking order.
The software of choice is Photoshop. Elements is good and any version after Elements9 is fine and should be free till you get to Elements 10 or 11. Lightroom is good but will not be free and may be harder to learn. There is plenty of help on the internet or if you get stuck then just ask. Carol in Cairns is a qualified PS. tell you howeress.

    2. Yeah I'm about Midged out myself and from what you've said they remind me of gnats - which they may be gnats - anyway I hate those things.

Adrian, Blender is a different animal. You create fully 3D images with it. It is free. Just google Blender 3D or something like that if interested. I suspect it would not be helpful to you because it is mostly for creating images for games and such. I have not applied myself at all to learning it, just play with it occasionally because I'm constantly running into a brick wall.

    3. Gnats are the same things David.

      Blender 3D....Wow!
It's a powerful bit of kit. I am trying to get my head around 3D, it is hard. The tutorials on Blender are superb. Better by far than Adobe's. I usually do a Christmas greeting for folk on my blog and am slowly getting there. I have what I want to do written down and keep working on a bit at a time. When you start adding shadows and lighting effects I find a quick render lets me see what a mess I've made. I may get Blender it does look good and user friendly...Friendly in this context is another oxymoron.

  12. I decided that you had finally flipped referring to a brand of speakers and a New Zealand make-up. Google tried to enlighten me but I was not really any wiser. But then wisdom never was one of my strong points. Autumn with trees: oh how I miss it. Constant summers has an advantage but missing autumn is a real loss to one's sensibilities.

  13. Loving the architecture amongst the fir trees. It's the kind of scene that I recall from many a Scottish trip.
