BRAIN ACHE. (28/08/13)

The light is very flat at the moment. It seems ages since I could wander out with the camera and see any real contrast in the landscape._MG_1265   It looked as if we were in for a good sunset over Loch Linnhe yesterday evening but it never really amounted to much.

This morning I wandered out with the 135mm lens and stuck a 36mm extension tube on it. All these flowers are growing on a  shingle bank. Amazing they survive.

I think this is Unscented Mayweed. It did smell faintly of Marlboro but then most things do.

Groundsel……no doubt at all.

_MG_1283     Rough Hawk’s-beard……I’m seventy percent sure.

My head really hurts. DAVID AT ONE PERCENT sent me a link to some open source software called BLENDER 3D. It’s a very sophisticated 3D modelling and animation program. It’s also a real headache.

28-08-2013 12-03-30 This is just a tiny bit of what it can produce. This entire image was created in Blender but not by me. Despite a day and a half and a very late night I am still struggling to stick two cubes together. One day I just might get this good. If my head doesn’t explode first that is. The genius responsible for this is Andrew Price and the tutorial can be found here WATER SPLASH IN BLENDER 3D.

It’s brightening up here so I'm going for a walk. Have fun.

  1. Blender definitely has a steep learning curve! I use it to build the models for 3D printing, but I can still only manage sticking primitives together; forget water I can't even figure out organic looking curves.

    1. Mark, it's desperate, so many tools and I can't seem to find a layers pallet as such. Keeping track is the hard bit. I've just finished some pool balls.

    1. Hillary, it is a bit noisy....it wouldn't print.

  4. On first look the first picture was great. I wondered what in heck you meant by it not being much of a sunset. Then I realized there wasn't much color to it. Maybe it is the color blind thing but I'm not a huge fan of color anyway and I hate it if it's the least bit garish. So I like this sunset very much. But Adrian the hills/mountains in the foreground bother me. The one on the right especially. It is too dark, looks flat.

All of the flowers I love. They have a soft look about them like you can actually feel the texture.

I can certainly relate to the headache with Blender. I need to have a long talk with myself about discipline because every time I see something like the picture you posted, I know I'm letting something slide that I would really enjoy doing if I just buckled down.

  8. I think, having had a quick play here, that the Sunset would make a better greyscale piccy.

  10. I think that there are good discernible layers in darkness of the front right mountain: just as there would be to the naked eye although we'd compensate for the darkness more easily. The final picture is just beyond my photographic comprehension though: it's really amazing (in the true sense of the word).

    1. Graham, thanks. I feel a little better about the sunset now but not a lot better.
The last image is a snap shot from a ten second animation.
It's amazing how real it looks.
I rarely see films but the animated ones like Chicken Run could now be produced at home on free software. It's worth watching the first five minutes or so of the tutorial. The orange takes the chap about five inutes to do.

  13. Little breaks are needed every now and again. I have tried to figure out some of that photography stuff but some of it takes forever....and there are some programs I still haven't figured out yet! Probably should sit down and try it but I don't have the patience:(
