COSMOPOLITAN. (15/08/13)

I was very lucky this morning. It rained for the best part of the night. By dawn it was looking a little brighter so I decided to walk round the head of the loch to investigate the harbour.

The French couple camping next door decided to join us for the wander. They were both dressed in white jeans so I decided to smarten myself up. There was always the chance of her husband falling in the sea and getting himself swallowed by a whale. Off I set in clean shirt and cargo trousers…mine aren’t white but a muddy brown colour. I have found it’s no bad thing to buy clothes in shades of brown and grey, preferably with a pattern.

I’d only completed half a mile of beach and I was already looking grubby. I don’t know how the French manage to keep so clean. Their clothes must be made out of special material.

_MG_1091_2_3_fused  It’s not as if it’s a particularly dirty beach. The dogs and I can find muck anywhere.

_MG_1115_6_7_fused      An American shop.

crocpan     An Australian shop.

_MG_1100_1_2_fusedA Scottish Kirk. I don’t know why it has two doors. I suspect one will be for the ‘Wee Frees’ and the other for the ‘All are Welcomes’.

The French turned back here as it had started raining again. It was also hellish hot and humid, not nice at all.

This is the War memorial and it is in a wonderful place, the second picture is the view from it with the Isle of Skye on the horizon.

_MG_1109_10_11_tonemapped    This is as far as I got today Charlestown and the harbour are just behind the headland. They can wait for tomorrow.

The pub here is dog friendly so we’ll dine out tonight. Rare things are dog friendly pubs in Scotland.

That’s all for today.

  1. Cheap Australian Crocodiles going out on clearance? Hmmm. You have had a veritable feast of culture today.

    1. It's like a surf shop Carol. I'm not one to take the Micky nor use racialist comments like Micky. Oh! I did. I meant take the piss. Nor do I subscribe to degenerating crocodiles. I also hate the idea of culture and Australia being grouped together as an oxymoron. You have an Opera House...It's in Sydney or somewhere. It looks like a frightened Armadillo.

    2. In case you missed Cro's post today about all things BIG in Aussie culture, maybe you would nominate the Opera House as The Big Armadillo on the tourist route. It was designed by a Dane I should add. Gee I hope I haven't got that wrong :-/

    3. The Danes are a funny lot. They wear hats with horns on. Perhaps this Dane got horns and scales muddled up or the builders did.
Who is Croc? You didn't give a link.
It doesn't need plugging anymore. Everyone with an ounce of brain knows it's somewhere in Australia.

    1. Margaret, unsubscribe from Google+ then use blogger dashboard to set up your comments.....I could only find your blog and enter it manually on my reading list after you gave me the URL.
If you have trouble there are dozens of us out here to add to your confusion.
Seriously...it's a matter of minutes to send screen grabs and destructions.

    2. HI Adrian I don't think I can unsubscribe from google + as there are quite a number of people follows me on it and I they !!! that would cause yet another problem!! Can you do something for me as I don't know if this works. I have on the right hand side, below Labels and search this blog, the next one is Follow by email. Try putting your email address in there and see if you get my post that way. Thanks for your help. If you don't want to do this, I won't cry!!!

    3. I'll have a look into the matter. It's your blog template needs adjusting. That's the bit with line after line of computer code. It's easy to access but not so easy to alter..this is not for the faint hearted. Let's hope Mark reads this. He'll more than likely sort it with a couple of lines of HTML script.
Like Facebook, Google+ is a nightmare to control. I'll keep looking and translate Mark's instructions into normal speak!

    5. I just want to add to the confusion, I'm on Google+ and use the Blogger dashboard and receive your post (Margaret) via my blog list and Google+, the comment thing isn't, I don't think related to Google+, when i post at the end it ask if I wish to share via Google+ and I add to which "circles" the post is shared so don't worry about loosing Google+ readers.
I think the comment and the inability to reply to comments might be a Blogger issue, have you searched the Help Forums or posted a question for help on the forum, the help forum users are very friendly and quick to help at the same time you can report the problem to Blogger to have a look at.
Sadly other then that I'm stumped.

    1. Douglas, as the French chap said to me.." Not Weird but Cosmopolitan"....." You understand...it's just different."
I can have a shower a beard trim, a clean set of clothes and within the hour it is hard to tell the difference.

  5. I do like to see shops with a bit of character. Far too many these days with their boring corporate image. As for the two doors, my first thought was one for hatches and matches and the other for dispatches ;) Enjoy your meal out and a visit to the beach tomorrow.

    1. The book shop here is brilliant. I went in this morning having left my money at home....A waste of a trip...I've reserved a good copy of 'The Hard Years' by Joe brown. There are another half dozen books worth buying. He's delivering The Hard Years.

  7. All are mighty fine pictures. The trading post is an odd and kind of interesting looking place. A mix of Scottish and American west.

Seems like you always post one picture I love. In this case it's beach.

    1. The beach is half right David. I shoot Raw and this is a combination of three images two stops apart. I usually get one good one a month. I'm hoping for two this month as I'm only half way through August.

  9. Given the terrible light we've been having for photography the tonemapped beach has turned out superbly. I must experiment with separating my exposures a bit more. The kirk is a splendid one for such a small community.

    1. Graham, the light is always crap in a good summer. You have to shoot into the storm with the gap in the cloud behind you.
I thought that the beach is a saver and the road to megga bucks.
My editor says it's badly composed. Who am I to argue. She is nice enough from the waist up. Bloody horrendous the bum on her.
I missed too much out...I didn't dare take the wide angle and had I it wouldn't have been this shot. Silly Cow.
We've been arguing all afternoon. Now she will read this and kick off again.

    2. Laura, is right I blew it I should have shot more of the left and dumped a bit of the foreground. Told you K'd get an e-mail. It said middling get your arse in gear! She should know. I'll try harder next time.

  10. I'm disappointed in you Adrian - fraternising with The French! And when you say it's a dog friendly pub do you mean it has a Korean chef?

    1. YP. To be honest a little more fraternizing wouldn't have gone amiss.

    1. Years ago I used to go climbing in the Alps. After a week away from civilisation the french would return looking asif they'd just stepped out of the clothes shop window. The English and Germans looked like tramps. I smoke and drink, I've even tried swearing in French but I still attract muck.
