NOT MUCH SNOW. (06/12/13)

I was hoping for a winter wonderland when I woke this morning. No such luck the temperature was 1oC, the snow that fell over night had melted away and it was just cold and raw. The gale of yesterday has disappeared off to Norway and I hope that it didn’t affect anyone too badly._MG_2374

_MG_2372

_MG_2373 A few views from our walk this morning. It isn’t really photography weather but I’m hoping to get out for some Christmas lights snaps one evening. I’ll dig out a star filter for some real twinkles.

I noticed that TREVOR had popped a little gold line around his pictures and thought it worth a try. Thanks Trevor I don’t know what colour he used by I used # f69e04.

Have a really good weekend.

  1. Adrian, it doesn't look like you walked far enough!.....there seems to be plenty of snow on those hills in the first shot?
Glad to hear that you survived the night.
I started to put a stroke around my pictures when there was no obvious 'edge' showing when I put them onto the white background, now it's just become part of the workflow. I usually sample a colour from within the picture, so that it (this is the theory!) compliments the image. Normally set inside at 4px wide.
Stay safe and have a great weekend chasing those fairy lights...[;o)

    1. Trevor, that is an even better idea. I have started creating actions for repetitive tasks like compressing. The trouble is I tend to give them such cryptic titles I can't always recall what they do.
I just use a canvas extension and work in cms. after I have compressed. I have increased image size to 1500 pixels on the longest side.
I'm hoping my son will give me a lift down to Castleton for the illuminations.

    2. If you don't want to add the edges you can do them in the CSS of the page as well (this is how I do it on one of my blogs).

As an example to add a 1px gold border you would do

      <img src="image.jpg" style="border: 1px solid #f69e04;">

If you want to start adding multiple borders you can do this by styling the links around the images as well and playing with padding and margins.

    3. Thanks Mark, I use LiveWriter to compose in and that does have a choice of borders but non are too inspiring.
I must redesign my template as it is much too narrow for the majority of screens. I stretched it out once. Vowed never to tackle that sack of spiders again. I must learn HTML and Java but suspect it will defy me.
I have got lights to twinkle in Blender. I drew the whole caboodle from a cube the pressed Ctrl+b to select the bulb bit. then Ctrl D to duplicate and dragged it to a new window and popped a wee cylinder in and gave it emission then I'd gorgotten to close the cylinder at the ends. It wasn't critical I then gave the bulb bit a glass texture. It wasn't magical but it worked. When I tried the same thing with the bulb holder nothing happened at all. I can see it taking me till midsummer to get a Christmas video out.
What you regard as easy mere mortals find desperately hard.
Thanks for the script I'll give it a whirl.

    1. Jean, we enjoyed a serious storm yesterday so everything is wet. It's a good job it froze a bit overnight or the dogs would have been black.

  3. Wind, 1 degree ~ well you will live on a little island in the North Sea. The little #f69e04 is a nice touch. Yes, love the signs of humanity in those tyre tracks.

    1. Carol, Happy Birthday....I just hope you don't catch me up anytime soon. We always revel in adverse weather here. I even heard our east coast referred to on the BBC as the Eastern Seaboard. Eastern Seaboardlet would be more accurate.

    2. Thanks Adrian. Seaboardlet ~ very funny!

    3. Our Western Seaboardlet is more impressive but Captain Cook left from Whitby on the east coast. He went down your way but I suspect you are too young to remember.

  4. HI Adrian Yes Trevorr is right. You did not walk far enough to reach the snow but I am glad you are safe from the storm and high winds. Thanks for putting the link in to Trevor becasue that post as when I was away adnI would have hated to have missed it. It was so funny.

    1. Margaret, the snow is two valleys away. I'm still suffering mild discomfort after falling a couple of weeks ago. At least I'm walking a couple of miles a day again.
Trevor and his moths are excellent entertainment. He ought to be on TV. I just wish I could have had a video camera set up when he opened his moth trap indoors.

    1. Maria, I'm 200% better thank you. I am down to a nagging pain in my loin muscles. That's what they are in a pig. I'll have to look up what mine are called.

    2. Maria, there are more than I thought I had. I think the fillet muscle in me is my Longissimus dorsi. Very posh it is and certainly sounds better than fillet of Adrian.

    1. Katherine, I hope not, it's me that is on the menu.
I doubt that a dog eating cow muck was ever included in the works of the masters but thanks anyway.

  7. Hope the weather wasn't too bad where you were, I can imagine the van would rock like crazy in a gale. It was horrible in Penistone and we've lost two ridge tiles. Fortunately they came off after we'd left for work, otherwise one of them would have gone through the windscreen of the car. Mind you one of them has smashed in part of the porch roof as well. Ah well the insurance company are on the case so hopefully it will all get fixed soon(ish).

    1. Mark, I was glad I wasn't working out at sea. The van is pretty stable compared with a boat. The dogs were concerned for an hour but soon got used to it. The van does move but not very much. I wouldn't drive from choice in those winds.
I'm glad you survived. Get up in the loft and move anything from the missing ridge area. You never know it may rain again.

    2. Yeah, fortunately the missing tiles are above the water tank and at the opposite end to where we have anything stored, so hopefully we should be all right. Plus I can't see any light coming in and no holes in the felt so fingers crossed!

    3. May be worth having the whole ridge re-mortared. They usually have to scaffold up anyway which is half the cost. Get in quick. When we had the last gale I phoned the insurance and they let me go ahead with repairs without any paperwork. I had new gutters which I paid for and they paid the rest. Roofers will be busy so get in smartish.

    4. I was on to the insurance people within five minutes of finding out it had happened, but the first time they can send anyone is Tuesday. Hopefully it will get sorted fairly quickly.

  20. I haven't been out and about much in the places where there have been dustings of snow. Went for a walk today at Hadrian's wall with a walking group, wasn't photography weather either. It was bitter, never worn as much gear on a walk before !!
