SEA.

It has become almost clement, spring is on it's way but I shan't cast off my winter thermals just yet.
Snowdrops are blooming everywhere.

Before I forget if anyone is interested in a free Youtube downloader there's one HERE. Works like a dream.

I am still playing in the new Blender software and am delighted with the whole package. This video shows an animated sea, the clouds need replacing with proper animated or procedural clouds. The video does require some masking in the compositor to break or blur the horizon and the camera focus improving. I will try and get it to track a wave. This is a draft birthday video and I only have a couple of days to sort it.

Any suggestions will be gratefully received.

  1. Maybe it needs to be misty near the horizon. Brighter lighting on the waves where there are gaps in the cloud would be nice. It's very effective.

    1. John you are correct I'll pop some mist on and use a gradient or double gradient as a mask. It should be easy with a relatively flat horizon. I'll make a sky using a noise node and no doubt several others until I get totally lost. It did have cloud flicker on the water from this sky and then I added a sun lamp and failed to notice it had overpowered the HDRI world.
I will have to be careful as I'm getting close to my processor limit. May have to do a sky and then the sea and mess about compositing the two. 1.8 million vertices in the water bit to get it anything like and another 25% would be nice.

    1. Marty, it is sunny and warm at the moment. All I can smell is wet dog and sheep.

    1. Trevor, still time for a nip from the north or a beast from the east.
I had a much wider lens on at first and it made me a touch nauseous. Funny as I spent years on the sea and was never ill. The nearest I came was riding shotgun in a rally car, fortunately the car fell over before I was sick.

  4. Doing anything with it is, of course, way beyond my ken but I could sit and watch it for ages.

    1. Graham, I've been sheeping but had a look earlier and have reduced the foam. I am not an artist so though I can use the software....A bit. I can't use it to create perfection. I love 3D modelling but it is very complex. Rough and ready is easy but creating art is hard.
Same with anything from riding a quick bike fast to sculpting that marble bloke with the little willy. He'd have been hung like a horse had I had that much marble to go at.

  6. That clip is quite mesmerising, Adrian. I see that Scotland is still a bit warmer than the English Midlands. The daytime temperatures were constantly in double figures when I was in the Highlands last week - would have loved a bit of snow!

    1. Richard snow is one of those things that doesn't tend to come in bits. It is warm at the moment though we are far from frost free here. This is just a bit of what the software can do when using a laptop. Get big processors and lots of RAM and the sky is the limit....Ones imagination is the real limit of course and then competence rears it's ugly head.
