AYSGILL FORCE TWO (16/09/10)

Here I am again, had a strong cup of black tea and it’s cleared my head. Least I hope it has. After an abysmal day yesterday the sun showed itself an hour before dusk so out we trotted.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    A lovely evening.

Ninety percent of the styles in the Dales have this wee spring loaded gate on. A grand idea unless you have a camera, camera bag, tripod, two dogs on leads and oneself to get through them. Anybody watching my antics equipped with a camera would have a post far more entertaining than this. Unless they recorded sound then the cussing and cursing would surely have to be edited out.  The rusty can is an old milk churn, these were galvanised originally and before they were fazed out in favour of bulk tanker collection made in alluminium. Prior to this model they were manufactured in copper and tin plated. Worth a fortune today!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA It really had been a wet and windy day, this little spring popped up from nowhere.

On to today. We set out along the road to Gayle.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAA view taken from the ford at Gayle. As is my practice I’ll own up to doubling the size of the little boulders running left to right. Gives a touch more impact.

Now I have a slight dilemma. Several in fact but this one concerns us all. I have no shots of Aysgill Force. Not quite true, it is buried in an inaccessible gorge surrounded by trees in leaf and the sun was streaming in or becking in as they would say round here. So here is my very best endeavour.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Sorry second best………….here is the best…………….

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Crouched down in a foot of sh……sorry mud. This is a two person shoot I to hold the dogs and gear and the other to climb down for a decent view and hopefully some cracking pictures.

On with the wander.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAJust a view, I love this area. Contrast, soft one minute and harsh the next.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA          A bit of barn detail that caught my fancy.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA          And back down to Gayle Bridge and the wander along the road to home. I had a grand time so did the dogs almost two mile lead free. Not bad out of three or four.

It rained as I unlocked the truck so somebody is watching my back. About time, have been seriously wet more than once this week. Well once, the more than was a shower. The soapy sort.

Have fun, have a laugh.

  1. Looked like a three person shot of the falls - one to hang onto your belt!

  3. That first shot is a real treat Adrian. Beautiful countryside.
Second shot of Aysgill Force was worth the the mud. A lovely shot; captured the movement of the water perfectly.

  4. Can't beat North Yorkshire for photography, it is totally unique as you have demonstrated here in classic picture number 1. I seem to have spent more time than usual in these parts recently and have noticed these stile gates that I haven't seen anywhere else yet. The barn / door style photo always delivers in my opinion, great work, J
