BIG BOYS TOYS (26/09/10)

Today was the day of the Thirty Sixth Annual Working Rally for Vintage machinery at Tancred Grange Scorton. You will get more of this in ‘Big Boys Toys Two’ tomorrow.  Today I will paint the picture with a broad brush. If this doesn’t rock your boat you can then safely forget tomorrows post.

I’ll start with a teaser…………………………

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA I would never have guessed what this was…………………Anyone know?……….The answer tomorrow.

To say there was a bit of everything here would be an overstatement but there were an awful lot of things to admire and be fascinated by.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  There were bikes……………………………

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   Birds……………………………………………

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  and Busses.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Tractors large

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    Medium…………………………….

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA    And small.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Traction Engines came either large……

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   Or small.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Trucks in every size imaginable.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA Models.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA   Stationary Engines in variety to boggle the imagination.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA  Finally cars and motorcycles by the dozen.

All in all an excellent day out and dog friendly too. Molly enjoyed herself, lots of dogs to chat to and the odd dropped sausage as a bonus.

All in all wonderful day so many thanks to the North Yorkshire Vintage Machinery Society for all the hard work entailed in a show of this magnitude.

  1. Really olde fashions, and you want us to come up with the answer, well I'll try, knowing you, it looks like an engine that makes cider, or something else like a beer etc.

  3. A wonderful array of machinery Adrian.
    Something for everyone there.

The mystery machine; hmmmm. A mixer of some sorts?
    An early flour grader?

  6. Wow! Looks like a person could spend the whole day there checking everything out! Lots of men standing around, talking about what they could do with such machines. ;o)

  7. I might not be a boy but I enjoyed these photographs a lot.
Mystery machine is an elaborate contraption to take the backache out of butter churning.?? We have an original butter churn barrel, that looks the same as that.( minus the machinery !)
    A colourful,interesting post Adrian,loved it.

  8. That looked to be a brilliant day out Adrian. It's many a year since I visited such an event.

Be that a butter churner I muse.

  9. Bob, No but I would do my best to try.

Trevor, had you guessed correctly then you could have named your prize!

    Keith a veritable extravaganza.

Jolynne, it is and they give so much enjoyment.

J on Tour, all men should have a shed. A heated shed!

Krista, lots of scruffy oily men and a few women too.

Matron that was my guess too. We were both a long way from the truth.

John, I try to go but always tend to miss them. I thought dairy but no. I've just posted the answer.

  10. Well I'm going along with Bob but somehow it's not looking quite right. But as for any other guess I'm stumped. At least I don't have to wait until tomorrow. I just have to scroll up for the answer!

I've never been to an event like this in the UK but they are pretty common in NZ and great fun. Even the youngsters seem to enjoy them...up to a point and provided there's plenty of incentive in the form of yuckie candy floss and ice lollies.

  11. GB, they are just brilliant. No words can describe how people can put so much effort into something that is useless. It isn't useless of course, it gives pleasure.
