SAND CASTLE (24/11/10)

At last we have got some pictures. We are cold and wet but it was worth it. The light between the squalls was really quite exciting.

Before I get started properly I would like to draw your attention to a blog I’ve really been enjoying SNAKES IN THE FOREST OF DEAN. Stunning photographs and interesting and informative writing.

On with todays mission, the title ought to read Sand and Castle.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA I had fun today despite three or four good soakings……..You can just about make out the castle under the rainbow…………..No crock of gold here but a gold mine. Two pounds to park and eight pounds to get in. It was closed so I can’t tell you whether it’s worth it…………..I suspect that after the initial shock has worn off it probably is………It’s massive and looks in good repair. I can’t even say that Mary Queen of Scots stayed………expect so….She stopped just about everywhere else.

That’s all for today.

  1. Looks like you had the beach to yourself Adrian.

The castle and reflection is a cracker of a shot. Really like that one.
Eight quid to get in?! Pays towards the clock I suppose; I like the angle of that shot.
And rainbows; can't go wrong with those.

  2. Keith. Just about, four other people and twice that number of dogs. Don't know what the attraction is for dogs. suspect they must like the feel of the sand and they can have a swim. The beach is unnamed on my map odd there is miles of it.

  3. Have you been down to Harkness Rocks, near to Stag Rock lighthouse, and had a look at the view south to the castle. That's a great view, Adrian.

  4. Images 4&5 are my personal favourites Adrian.
Eight pounds entry does seem a bit steep I will have to save up my pennies.

  5. You photographed the beach in variable light. Really great.

  6. I was waiting for these ones. Reminds me of my Seahouses to Bamburgh post.... only thing is, I know that you would need wellys for some of these.... it was worth it though. Good stuff.

  7. Emma, I did have it marked down but with the weather coming in from the NE it was very dark that side.. I fancy catching it at night but this weather is not conducive to wandering about in the dark. Good moon to light our way home if the skies would just clear. Thanks for the tip they are always welcome.

Trevor, Glad I I got anything this week. £8.00 is really not too bad if there are a few hours of entertainment to be had.

Bob, Many thanks, it is a bit grim up here at the moment.

  8. Jay, I need wellies to step out of the truck. Tend to live in them at low level this time of the year. Quite exciting today but i was pleased to get any pictures at all.

  9. Superb photos! Each one is a prize ~ it must have been magical seeing the light play with the sand, castle and rainbows. Well worth the wellies and wetness. Beautiful.

  10. Glo, thank you, it's much the same today but a lot cooler. I'm not into full winter gear yet, still made a passable Michelin Man yesterday.

  11. 'From the beach its sandy walls rise,
Its turrents reach up to touch the skies.
A tiny moat dissolves the keep.
Its pavers are strong, though only two inches deep.
Tiny footprints embedded in the sand,
Where once a child there did stand.
Its grace and beauty a short time will last,
Before the sea washes it into the past.'

  14. GB, had I realised how good the light was I would have taken all the gear. It is the first time in what must be five weeks spent on this coast, over the years, that I felt anything much for it.

  15. What wonderful light. I particularly like the 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th shots. Oh hell, I guess they are all great!

  16. Like Keith I really like the castle with reflection. The warm glow of the sunlight really goes well on the brickwork on all the castle shots. You are hardier than I am. I think I would have been entering hibernation mode in those conditions.

  17. John, it is a satisfying time of the year for pictures. It is cold but I am gradually adding layers both clothes and Photoshop.
