BY GUM LAD! IT’S CHILLY (16/12/10)

It seems an awful long time since I had perfect light………..I do edit but there is a limit. No I lie, there SHOULD be a limit. I’m limiting myself these days……..An anti New Years resolution………….Easy Peasy!  Half a month to go. We will see.

We have arrived in the Lake District and are here……………..

image        Sorry I don’t know where the arrow went…………I always put an arrow……..it matters not. Probably just got frozen.

image      No worries, arrows are back.

Na then! Tha knows our met office is brilliant…..We came a day early as they were forecasting storm and tempest for this morning, gales, driving snow…..What happened….Nowt!……

You really have to get your act in order do you ventriloquists*…….predicting worse case just doesn’t work. People are generally quite bright and soon disregard predictions if they prove to be false in their experience……When you really mean it you could be responsible for folk like me……..If you don’t know say…………..60% is as good as you get on anti six hours……Useless. I do like your graphics though……..you don’t loose arrows……Most likely you employ a dozen arrow checkers.

We went for a walk……………looks like monochrome…………….Hey Ho!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Derwentwater frozen……………..It was bitter cold and me… Muppet Head….I’d forgotten my gloves.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     The pointy bit is Cat Bells……………regular followers will remember we three….not kings….I, Molly and Alf climbed it a month ago.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA     My little pinkies were frozen. We walked back through Hope Park and a gardener had left us a warm….most welcome.

Have fun and if there are any Mycologists* out there then…………….get real!

I know you are trying……………..very.

*Sorry I meant Meteorologists …………….I was fifty percent correct . Not quite but you get the message…………No harm done if you say……..’ I don’t Know.’…’I’ll phone a friend.’

Make sure the friend is up wind of you!

Anyone interested in guessing weather then Google… UGRIB. If you have problems then you have failed to select a box and tick it…………..It’s free and is computer generated….

As always you can e-mail if you can’t get it to work. It is American  as is all the software and most of the hardware on my computer…………..No wonder I have problems. What a lovely country………..pity they don’t play Cricket…………How are the Aussies doing?

  1. Lovely frozen lake and what a nice home coming, burning hot for you. I think they had 265 all out and we had 29 for no wickets.

  2. Lovely shot of Cat Bells Adrian. Hope you manage to keep warm.
If I get cold, I'll just look at that picture of the fire.

  3. The Cat Bells is a lovely photograph. You can almost feel the heat from the logs..a beauty.
You are spoilt for choice up there if you are prepared to endure the Arctic conditions.

  4. Too right Adrian. It's chilly here now. 'Twas about +6C first thing and the last of the ice on the pavements melted during the day. Came 1pm and the rain suddenly changed to snow which melted on the paths which have now turned to a village size (probably county size) skating rink.
Hope you remembered a new gas bottle.
All you have to do now is animate the wood fire to feel warm and cosy.

  5. Great Catbells shot with the last picture being a virtual antidote to the rest of the post as I sit with one hand on the radiator. Great subject link at the end.

  6. As I write this England are 82 for 2 having lost the last wicket at 82 and they've now lost another so it's 82 for 3. What at 78 was looking ok for England is now looking a bit shaky. Help! It's all a bit of a problem here because NZ hate the Aussies in sport unless the Aussies are playing someone else and the outcome isn't going to prejudice NZ. So they support Australia in the Ashes. It's all very complicated.

Glad you are back in The Lake District. It used to be my spiritual home but I've drifted a bit. I still love seeing the photos though.

    86 for 3.

  8. Bob, Cheers A pretty grim day.

Trevor warm is relative, I still have a couple more layers to go.

Keith, Ta. I should have shot it on video.

Trevor, I know I moan but it is my favourite time of the year. I sit and wait freezing but if the light plays ball we are away.........for five minutes!

John, Calor are getting daft over 30% increase in gas in a year. Do this unelected load of thieves care.........No we pay for their heating. They can still smoke in there subsidised bars....Vote for me!

Jay, we used to use grib at sea but if we were serious paid for Ocean Routes weather. It is fun and amazingly accurate. I used to use a German University site as well.......beat the Met office hands down. Our Met should be the best but whatever they say is at best 60%.

Graham, I am here till Tuesday and then back for Christmas. I gave my serious Ice gear away so will have to reinvest in crampons and an Alpenstock. Never owned one of them....be a Zimmer next.

Dawntreader, their is nothing like a good fire..I love fires.....Just as well the desire is tempered otherwise I would be an arsonist.
