NO TEETH. (16/02/13)

The world is an unfair environment for kindly old men.

Yesterday a three week axle repair went to six weeks. This week a one week school half term is apparently a two week half term. Now I don’t want you to think I dislike children, fifty years ago all my best friends were children. I suspect that I have grown out of them. I grew out of my childish friends.

Just as well I did….There seems to be very little tolerance for folk that like kids. Perhaps children should be popped into ‘Ready Meals’ for priests to eat…. That would be a perfect reciprocity…As I understand things children are purported to gobble priests!

Why have I ground my teeth to the gum?……The bloody Canon D5 Mark II has turned it’s toes up. It just says ERR 20. Is ERR 20 supposed to make me feel better? I have changed lenses…..ERR 20. I have formatted memory cards x two….ERR 20…I have taken out and charged the battery……ERR 20….. I have switched batteries…ERR 20………………..ERRRRR! I do not know any Japanese but surely the back screen could just say…THIS CAMERA IS FUCKED! WE CONNED YOU INTO BUYING A PUP!….I could understand that and save myself a heap of messing about. LEICA just swap cameras. Old for new….Suspect Alpa do. It is a big pity Olympus didn’t keep up. One gets what one pays for.

It is still under warrantee. I called Harrison Cameras and they said Canon need it back. There is no problem.

NO BLOODY PROBLEM? Not to them they have a shop full of 5Ds!  Having got the old 1Ds I may just chop the 5D in for a 7D…..there will be a few coming up cheap as a new 7D is rumoured.

The last pictures from the 5D………………………

IMG_0001_edited-1    I think this is a Birch Polypore but I have never seen it growing from such a small base….It’s little tendrils must be above average. They are called rhizomes are the little white bits it grows from…..I think!  I know they look like cotton thread.

IMG_0002_edited-1   Winter Aconite just about to flower………….I think.

IMG_0006_edited-1   Beached Boat…..I know.

IMG_0005_edited-1       Dogs on the beach……I know these only too well.

Set backs are opportunities…….One step backwards is usually the precursor to total disaster.

Have a good Sunday, the forecast is good for us here. Thank heaven that I recognised Canon build for what it is and have two of them.

  1. You're the third person I've read about who are gnashing their teeth over this particular camera. I sure hope you can get something less troublesome in its place.

  2. Hilary, yes they are a pain but it is cheap...ish. I use it and abuse it. It should stand it. The problem I find switching from Zuiko, and Zeiss lenses is that there are no certificates. Canon are good but I am never sure whether it is me or the gear.
I could go Leica if I had thirty grand.
Yes medium format. Hasselblad 500 series non electric. A digital back is 30k sterling....lenses are trillions in any currency.
They will give me a new one. No worries.

  4. Bad news about the camera Adrian. That's the sort of 'luck' that happens to me. Like the old song says, 'if it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all'. Hope you can get it sorted. Sometimes a change of battery does the trick, but that one sounds well screwed.

  5. Have you thought of reinstalling the firmware? Looks like a computer glitch. I will see if I can find out what Error 20 is.

  6. You have such smart friends but I'm no help at all. Just sorry you are having problems but happy to be entertained by your rants. Heartless I am. But also full of faith that you will get it sorted.

I love other peoples misfortunes so should get to enjoy my own.

  7. Hi Adrian, the manual says to switch off and on and off the switch or take out the battery and reinstall the battery. Have you tried that? Hope this helps.

    1. Horst. Thanks, I have done all that Canon suggest and spoken to the dealers. It is a job for Canon.
If it does it again then I chop it in for something else.

  8. You're not having much luck at the moment Adrian, it must have been something you said!! I'm sure Canon will (should!!) sort it with a new one, it's just the bloody annoying inconvenience of it all. Checking on the internet it seems, worryingly, to be a common problem with that camera...not good!!

Your yellow flower is...I think!! a Marsh Marigold...going by the long stem and the kidney shaped leaves in the background...not 100% though!

You've had your run of bad luck now, Hopefully things can only get better....[;o)

I pop in and look at your poetry most days.
I don't always understand it though.....I'll try a spliff prior to reading.

  11. Sorry to read you have hit the dreaded Canon ERR20. Reading around it seems to be related to a mirror / shutter mechanical problem. Hope they get it back to you in double time.

    1. John, I agree John. I read a load of rubbish on the WWW but Harrisons and one or two others agree with you.
Such is life. having looked at exploded views of a similar camera I suspect WD40 is not the solution.

  12. I've never had a problem with a Canon DSLR. Oh. Come to think of it I've never had a Canon DSLR. I knew there must be a reason. Your boat looks like it's stranded in the middle of a desert not an estuary.

The Canon has been the recipient of some choice words.
