ANOTHER TWO POST DAY. (17/05/13)

I have internet and a very tame bird. We have been shopping and moved all of seven miles. This site is just brilliant. It takes me back years to when I was a fit young twenty odd year old. I’m looking at  Lochan. A perfect buttressed mountain. It has a much longer name in Gallic, gobby folk are the Gales much like the Cornish and northern Spanish if five words will do why make do with one.

This is the first time for three weeks I’ve popped the bird feeders out and the first time in a year that Niger  seed has been popular.  Within minutes Chaffinch arrived and ten minutes later my friends the Siskin. The birds up here are wary but they have a two metre comfort zone. So much less wary than birds further south.

_MG_0457 copy  A wonderful half hour taking snaps of a Siskin….I know it isn’t a Yellow Hammer cos only Siskins are nasty enough to object to shutter clatter.  Flew at the camera it did…..Wonderful! A wonderful, vicious wee bird. All these are cropped but shot through a 135mm lens. It will let me get within a metre or so it must be hungry. Hungry or couldn’t give a flying Fuck!

_V0G6440_1_2_tonemapped copy Stob Coire nan Lochan and Stob nain Bian…I hope. You google translate…I’ve not learnt the local lingo yet.

_V0G6443_4_5_tonemapped copy   I think this a piccy of  Fionn Gleann. I hope Fionn is pleased ‘cos it’s a grand view.

_V0G6434_5_6_tonemapped copy   This I know is the Pap of Glencoe, the Scots are very rude, they call it Sgorr na Ciche. Translate that at your peril. I haven’t because I really didn’t want to know, Pap shocked me. Tons to see and do round here. I hope the weather stops fair for photos. Be all the same if it doesn’t….I’ll still post them.

I can feel a big 360/180 panorama coming on…Oh well!

Have a magical weekend.

    1. I hope they look Okay Hilary....I have a posh laptop with a not too good screen. I'll keep on being trying. If the colour is way away then get your screen calibrated....cost me a hundred ponds.

  2. Love those Siskin pictures.
I've always found them very accommodating when there's food about. Feisty, yea, but never seem too bothered by the camera.
And what a stunning spot you've arrived in.

    1. Keith, thank the Gods it's a Siskin. I can tell; Bolshie wee things they are. I thought they flew away in the summer but obviously they don't. I'm wearing an 'ard 'at before I go to top up the feeders.
Little buggers think it's their food.
Your southern Siskins are wimps, these little devils are really butch. Flew and pecked at the camera.
I want a picture of one eating from my hand. That would be an achievement. They are funny but unafraid much like Robins. Robins don't seem to live up here....Wise birds.
Bet you would have snappped a hooded crow. I'm a muppet.
It's brilliant up here and will see me out.

  7. Nice little Siskins, I haven't seen one this year, um I need a bit of training. The mountains are great, or is it a hill?

  9. Great country side you have there Adrian, a little smaller than our Rocky Mountains but still very beautiful. I do love the Mountains and the water sheds and all of that stuff that come with mountains. The fresh air is absolutely fabulous. Have a great weekend. Is it Victoria Day long weekend there as well?

  11. super photos of a very attractive area. Yes , some of these birds don't have an awful lot of fear. I had a whole lot of siskins land on my hands and cap one time. I wasn't expecting it so I flinched and of course they all took off.

  15. After I left you I took a few on my way through Glencoe on Wednesday last. I was going to say a few photos but after seeing yours they are simply snaps. When I get home I might see what I can do with them. Superb Siskin shots though. A metre? That's impressive. They are feisty little birds though.

    1. Graham, the Siskin and Chaffinch are remarkably relaxed here. They are getting through a lot of seed though.

A bit of a crop and a bit of judicious sorting can rescue most images.

  16. The bird must have thought all its birthdays had come at once, top shots. It's one thing to spell it right but another to say it right I find, I don't even try on the less well known mountains.
