MOUNTAINS AND MOORLAND. (08/05/13)

image

image I drove up to Glencoe this morning. I am staying at the Glencoe Mountain Resort. It is not the most attractive place but it is surrounded by great scenery. It is a ski resort in winter and like so many of them it looks like a hybrid of a motorway service station and a building site.

The weather isn’t good today but the rest of the week looks as if it will be much better with sunshine and showers forecast.

_V0G6267_8_9_tonemapped copy Looking towards Glencoe….the mountain in the centre is Buchaille Etive Mor. That’s Gallic for the great herdsman of Etive.

_V0G6270_1_2_tonemapped copy  A little bit of Rannoch Moor. This has lots of small lochs and is all very wet and boggy.

I’ll get out with a packed lunch and give the area a good looking at over the next few days.

    1. Peter, it is HDR. The majority of my landscapes are. I like using it because within reason images can be whatever one wishes them to be.

  6. Douglas, I love it here. I used to come walking and climbing thirty years ago. I just hope to get a little bit of fine weather. The next few days look reasonable.

    1. Monica, I only just shot it in time. The cloud base has dropped now and I can't see a thing.

  10. This looks like an interesting area. There should be lots of birds in the marshes. Wear your rubber boots(Wellies)

  11. Red, There ought to be breeding waders up here but I've not seen any sign of them so far.
This is peat bog so it doesn't support a vast amount of life.

  12. You were there at the best time (usually!) because later in the year Rannoch Moor is alive with midges.

  13. Thanks Graham, they don't bother me too much, unless every inch of exposed skin looks black. I can't breath without sucking in a meal. I must get midge cream,ta for the reminder.

  14. Hope the weather held for you staying in a place like that.
I went over Rannoch Moor on Bank holiday monday on a charter rail trip, It was grim weather at times.

    1. Jay, better than I expected. I saw rain at night and for one day and snow for a night and morning so not bad for the area.
