NEVER THE SAME. (14/05/13)

Today it is showery, it’s warmer and much less windy than yesterday. I keep dashing out for photographs in between the showers and for the most part have avoided getting wet.

There is a gravel spit just up the loch a few yards and on it are what look like Rock Pipets. They have posted notices saying keep off nesting birds so as soon as I get a reasonably fine day I’ll have a wander with Bertha for some pictures. I can get close enough across the other side of a stream to not cause them any grief.

I could sit here for weeks. The light is never the same for more than five minutes at a time and the colours are so vibrant._V0G6390_1_2_tonemapped copy

_V0G6420_1_2_tonemapped copy These are all taken from roughly the same place at different states of tide and light. The white building is the starboard hand light on the Corran Narrows.

_V0G6405_6_7_tonemapped copy Looking out to sea. Not that Loch Linnhe feeds directly into the sea but in that general direction.

_V0G6402_3_4_tonemapped copy  This is the first time this year that I’ve seen leaves on trees and in just over a month the nights will start drawing in again.

_V0G6384 copy   This is the last one for today and is the only image that is not tone mapped…..It’s so good here that one only needs a single shot.

Tomorrow is forecast to be more settled so I’ll go for a proper wander round. So far I’ve not strayed more than a couple of hundred yards from the van. It has the makings of a busy day tomorrow. I have a Blog friend dropping by for coffee. They should be delivering a Spyder to colour calibrate this machine and on top of that I’ve got to give Bertha an outing.

I’ve got my phone sorted so if you want the new number then just e-mail me. I did send an e-mail to all I could think of but could well have missed some folk off.

These pictures are 30% bigger than normal so if they are slow to load let me know.

That’s all for today.

  1. Rain, sun and sticks is a cracker Adrian.
They're all good, but that one really stands out.

    Got your e-mail; cheers.

  2. Keith lets hope it isn't the only one worth keeping from this month.
The birds up here are few and far between but are a lot less skittish than English birds. The Oystercatchers let us (that us includes the dogs) within twenty or thirty feet. Twenty or thirty yards is the norm in the Lakes.
I've been saving Scotland. It is wet and cold but just drop dead gorgeous.
I like shooting and posting the same day. I like staying in the same place for a while the images should get better as I get more into the place.

  3. These are all very beautiful Adrian; you're a 'natural' with landscapes; they come out beautifully.

  4. Far from being a natural....I just keep trying. Thank you Maria.

  5. In the first image, it looks as if one could touch the clouds. great captures, Adrian! And, Adrian, if you think you're not a natural, your photos shout otherwise!

    1. Norma, a couple of minutes later and I would have been engulfed in cloud. The ceiling moves fast and with a mind of it's own. I'm not a natural photographer. I doubt there is such a beast. I just keep trying because I love light.

    1. Annie...The sticks are. The rest are middling. Thank you anyway. I'm waiting for dusk now but it's not looking good. A bit too bright and settled. There are some sunbeams but the elusive wee beggars are not lighting anything up.

  9. You're in a super place if you just had to wander 200 or 300 m to get all these pictures. It could keep you busy for a while.

  12. Impressive stuff ... loving your panoramas. Scotland has all kinds of weather in a day.

Strange that I was so near you today. I wiped this day out as a day off & went to the Seal sanctuary at Loch Creran & hardly anyone was there. After seeing this set, maybe I shouldn't write off days like this !

  13. Jay, I enjoy showery days. I was hoping for a rainbow or two but it was not to be, I only give up when the cloud base is right down and the clouds are deep.
