IN THE PINK. (09/10/13)

Showers and sunshine seem to be the order for today. I had a wander into Keswick and managed a few quick photos before rain stopped play._V0G7736 I called at the jumper shop and fortunately they didn’t have my size in pink. If this lasts as long as the last one then it ought to see me out.

_V0G7730 The main street in Keswick. It wasn’t too busy today.

_V0G7731This is the Moot Hall. I must have dozens of images of it.

_V0G7733

_V0G7734   This pair were inspired by DALIANA PACURARU. Unfortunately I’m not half the photographer that she is. She calls herself Wind, I’m an expert on wind living in close confinement with two dogs.

That’s all for today, I’m busy sorting strobes and Pocket Wizards out as it it the steam weekend at Tees Cottage. I am hoping I’ve managed to recruit an assistant snapper, I’m also hoping that she is in a good mood. Assistants with a blog on are worse than no assistant at all. I ought to get her a Day-Glo jacket with Adrian’s Assistant printed on it.  I suspect a big stick would prove more efficacious but I'm too timid to use one effectively.

Tomorrow the forecast is much better so I’ll get the Windowlene  out and give Big Bertha a polish and an outing.

  1. Very smart, I guess the pink ones are reserved for the more petite customers?

I hope you're training that new assistant well, you wouldn't want her to mishandle your equipment now, would you?

Looking forward to seeing what Bertha can find tomorrow...[;o)

  2. Trevor, I suspect our cousins in Norseland don't go in for pink. It's a bit too hilly for golf up there.
The assistant isn't exactly new, I'm not a pedophile. She hasn't a clue but then neither have I. The only reason I am going down the artificial light route was because I spoke to a film lighting man earlier this year. They have such big lights they can turn a wet day into a sunny day and visa versa. I'll have to get it within a stop in camera. I have three 430 Canon strobes but already I think bigger may be better. Then I think of the cost. I have just got a couple of soft boxes and a load of coloured gels. From my flashing at fungi the raw flash is better for me. I like extremes.
They can turn day into night. It's a challenge.
Bertha for me is a bit heavy....she was not a good purchase. I love the images she can get though.

  3. Who’s that handsome chap in the Nordic jumper? He shouldn’t have too much trouble finding an assistant, even without a big stick.

It’s getting colder and wetter round here, take care and keep warm.

    1. Friko, what are you thinking. Handsome? I did a comb over, I wanted to do the woolie justice but then the wind blew. My few remaining hairs went all over.

The assistant is important for shooting steam engines and important things. It makes all the difference. The addition of a director would be better still. All I know is focus and press the button. I don't always remember the focus bit.

Nice to see Keswick on the quiet side as I know you prefer it that way.

    1. Andrew, I hate towns but keep coming back to this one.
It has a Booths' I love the produce. It has George Fischer, I like what they sell. It has the posh jumper shop. The only thing that is cheap here is food. But food is not for nothing in Booths' There is a CO-OP just over the road. My tea today is crab claws, salad, yesterdays smoked mackerel and a few boiled posh potatoes that I've never tasted.

  6. Well good for you that there is at least one town you can tolerate to go shopping in when you need it. I quite like the look of the red one I see in the window but the one you chose probably suits you better! :)

    1. Monica, this is only a small town. It isn't very busy at the moment.
I need a new pair of gloves whilst I'm here.

  7. Just got an email Adrian it read "my master calls me fat and heavy and thinks I'm a waste of money and should have been left on the shelf with the other expensive looking glass. I fear I might find myself on ebay some time soon and then wrapped and suffocated in horrible bubble wrap, then gropped and dropped by some displeased postman, who in turn will moan about my weight please what can I do to avoid this 'orrible end....Bertha"....

    1. Douglas, I am not selling Bertha. I'll make the effort to use her more. I am impressed that you manage to hand hold the 500mm so successfully. You must have muscles on muscles.
I'll get out with her in a while.

  10. It's a fine sweater. It looks warm and comfy and kind of dashing. By that I mean not drab and that's good. The pictures are so good! I love how the towns look. They make the little towns around here look like BFE.

I'm sorry to hear you are an expert on wind. I'm becoming an expert on wind as well - unfortunately. My cat has taken to jumping up into my lap and farting. If there is anything worse than cat breath...

    1. David, it is a grand jumper. It will help to keep the cold out.
Not all the town is this photogenic.
Horrible things are animals. I often don't notice their revolting habits which is slightly worrying.

  11. It's a lot quieter than the last couple of times that CJ and I have been there. It always was a busy place though. We (not CJ and I!) spent our honeymoon in Borrodale so coffeed a lot in Keswick.

  13. The new jumper looks fine Adrian but it is slightly rucked up on one side. If you are going to take up a new career - modelling knitwear for mature men - there must be no rucking up! Or have I chosen the right consonant?....Can't we drive down Keswick's main street any more?

    1. YP, I need a dresser.
You can only drive down the bottom bit from the Post Office on.

  16. Adrian it took me a bit to figure out what in the devil is he talking about "a jumper" (that's someone who commits suicide jumping of a bridge) ; ) then I said he must mean his "sweater" "what" I have never heard that before in my life !! Sure enough goggle search told me they are one in the same!!

I have learned more things with the blogging thing!!

    Lovely quaint little town shot's!!

  18. I never get happy with the images I have of the Moot Hall, too many people about & too stereotypical. Good processing here with some nice colour extremity touches. You captured the Daliana style well in Keswick with a mixture of pubs & outdoor shops. Maybe I should give this a go ... on a quiet day !!
