ADDICTION. (12/11/13)

Sunday I stopped in it was rainy and Armistice Day for the great and good and the evil. The paper Monday morning was full of pictures of the great and the good acknowledging the death of individuals who died to protect their wealth. The bastards can’t even celebrate a photo call on the right day. The buggers pose a day early.

I bought two poppies at a couple of quid a piece, the first one fell apart, probably made in China and not by a Hague Fund crippled soldier.

The bloody Queen was wearing three. I just hope she coughed up for them. Chinese are poor your majesty.

The pictures from the Cenotaph just showed fatty dithery dave and calamity clegg plus a dozen or so invited guests all standing in civvies sporting Poppies trying to look solemn but just looking smug…. Horrible people. That is Thatcher’s doing. They are just thick hoodies in ermine, born with a silver spoon is what they are. The rusting lady gave them this arrogance.

I have a problem, an addiction even. I left Derbyshire this morning and took a twenty mile detour through Sheffield to drop a roll of film off for processing. It cost £9.50p to have the film processed and scanned to CD. £9.75p to get it processed and a contact print made. I was gobsmacked. I thought in a naive moment I was back to the old days when I succumbed to the delights Bronica has to offer. Whilst there; this is where my addiction gets out of hand, I purchased a Gitzo tripod to support a lens I rarely use. It is like new, is eye level, will take the weight of a truck and weighs less than the 190 Manfrotto  tripod I have had for years. Just shy of £500.00p to get a film processed. Bloody ridiculous!

Where was I on my way to?…Boston. To look at birds. I enjoy birds but they keep flying off or hiding in twigs. Tomorrow Keith and Trevor are wandering across so they will put me straightish. It’s very flat round here. _MG_2203

_MG_2205 The view from the van, in the second snap you can see Bennington church. I am birding tomorrow, the  forecast is good so dawn over the reserve should be great, I’ll try to snap a Marsh Harrier catching a Redshank but a pound to a shilling I’ll have the wrong camera on the tripod.

You only live once.

  1. Adrian, can you implement a new years resolution a month and a bit early?...'cause you need to make one....stay away from camera shops!!

Miss Bronica looks like she's going to be an expensive lady to look after?

I can't be bothered to get started on those smug B..........s, I'll just get wound up.

Put the kettle on in time for first Sparrow fart....7 o'clock in the morning, we'll be there!...[;o)

  2. Trevor, I use the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month to think about 'the dead before there time folk' as well as using it to plant a wee cross at a war memorial for my dad and my best mates dad. Both died twenty years after the war but couldn't hack what they'd seen. I had so many good mates that were braver than and better than me in the sixties and early seventies. All dead now. I don't remember when they died but use Yesterday at Eleven to remember them.
    Suits me.
I'll have the kettle on. if I've wandered to set up a world beater then......
Kettle it will be full. Coffee and a choice of teas out gas match to light the fire. Fresh milk in view, truck door open. see you tomorrow.

  4. The introduction was funny. It made me laugh especially the part about the Queen and the Chinese being poor.

The first picture is good but I don't like shadows and don't like power lines. Of course you couldn't take them up for the shot. I really liked the second picture.

    1. David, my betters just wind me up.
They aren't good pictures. I'll have a look at the Church before I go. I like churches.

  6. If you brought your poppy from the British Legion it was 100% definately made in the UK, so if it fell apart it was probably made in Birmingham...what got me on Sunday was no Russian nor American represenatvie!! Should've been in my opinion.
The weather gods look like they're looking for birds in Lincoln tommorow, have fun.

    1. Douglas, I bought the poppies from a lass in the pub. They were in a British legion box thingy.
Yes it looks to be set fine. The devil takes care of his own.

  8. The RSA (Returned Services Association) which runs Poppy Day here in NZ outsourced the poppy manufacture to China. The older I get the more incomprehensible I find man's inhumanity to man at every level.

PS Why has your typeface suddenly dropped a point?

    1. Margaret, it won't be cheap. It will make me concentrate. I'll dig out the light meter and spot meter. I've just loaded it with a roll of Velvia reversal film. I don't want to loose a frame but will loose two thirds because I will bracket shoot the first roll. When I get my confidence up I'll be more economical.

  10. The Gitzo sounds great and it must be for Bertha. I am also provoked on making a purchase soon; the Canon 70D, or the Canon 6D, or the Olympus OM1. Each one has a different format; full frame; 1.6x crop sensor; or the micro fourth thirds. The Canon 70D is now like a flagship model, but the 6D is full frame.

    2. Maria, the Gitzo is what I should have bought years ago. It wasn't till I had had the Manfrotto for a couple of years that I realised. I can't help with new cameras as I never buy them. I wait till they pop up used. I like full frame. Good luck with whatever you choose. The 70D does have auto focus for video.
Ignore my rant. I just felt sickened by all the smug buggers in a row. All trying to look solemn but failing.

  11. I can tell you're less than impressed with your politicians. At least they don't lie like our guy Harper!
I was not surprised about the cost of developing film. It's a technology that's on it's way out.

    1. Red, ours lie too.
Film is expensive but is far from dead. I know at least five people that have switched back to it, two of them barely out of school. One lass is using an old fold out Kodak and having to tape up to stop light getting in. It concentrates the mind.
My camera shop has tons of film on the shelves and can cross process they have found it a growing business.
It will never be mainstream but photography never was.

  12. I hope your visitors come prepared to help carry all that tackle of yours. I suppose they have more than enough of their own. Have a happy birding day!

  13. Feel very much at home in the flat country (having travelled extensionally in northern Europe in my younger days) ... imagining being safe and sound in your trailer ... with you, and your pooches, Adrian ... smiles ... cup of tea ... or something stronger maybe ...

    1. Cat. this is dangerously flat. I feel that I'm in a place near the sea that tomorrow could be six feet under it. It's certainly different but does not inspire confidence.
