A COUPLE OF FLASHES. (07/10/15)

It has stopped raining but is about to start again soon.

There is a chap in the village learning to make Gum Bichromate prints. He uses PVA  builders waterproofer not Gum Arabic but I’m assured the principle is the same. I am going to try and get myself invited. He says it’s easy but not easy to do well. I’ll see if I can have a go and show you the result. It sounds a bit arty farty for me but one never knows, I might surprise myself.

I haven’t many images today, a couple of leaves and one of an apple so here goes._MG_2137

All shot in near darkness on our first walk with off camera flash left of camera and in the first two behind and below. Sounds posh but I hold the camera in my right hand and wave the flash about in my left. I think it makes for quite dramatic light.

Back to Blender for me but tomorrow is forecast to be bright and sunny so will take a pile of equipment out into the forest and try and find something interesting to snap.

  1. I hope that nobody is mating in the forest when you slink around in the shadows preparing to flash.

    1. Kovacs, thank you. I have a set up that would give a better background but it is heavy and it wasn't with me.

  4. That Apple reminds me of the wild apples we find when riding. Some are quite nice, and the horse and I share them (horses can't eat whole apples. They become outsized gob stoppers and roll around in their mouths until they're dropped.)

    1. Frances, these are very tart. I microwave them with some sugar and have them with my porridge.
Horses do struggle but I cut them into quarters for them.

  6. I like the second image the most. Your technique sounds complicated and unorthodox Adrian, I'm just conjuring up a mental image of you doing it :-)

    1. Douglas, it's probably good that there is no one to see me.

  7. The result is so much better than a straight-on flash. I like that second shot best. Do the local gendarmes know of ths proclivity for flashing?

    1. Bill, two strobe or three are even better. I like using flash for light.
The police or Bizzies as they are called will know now.

  8. Do be careful when you go flashing in the forest. Did you say you were in the forest? Doesn't matter, the image is now imprinted on my mind.

  9. Hey I'm impressed with the photos of leaves and beads of water. I'm also impressed with the way you positioned the flash. I'm also impressed that you got out in the dark for these photos.

  11. They certainly have the appearance of being shot in late or early sunshine rather than a flash. Nicely done. Are those tiny caterpillars I'm seeing on the left side of the apple?

    1. Hilary I use flash for anything that is close enough these days. It takes the guess work out of the job. No they are bits of muck.
