AN EASY MISTAKE. (20/10/15)

This morning I decided to have a wander into town. I could have done with getting tobacco, bread, and milk but forgot to take any money so I will have to do without until tomorrow. I’m ready for a supermarket shop and I have a parcel to post so I will make a day of it.

What remains of the old distillery in Auchtermuchty. This is reasonably photogenic but always has far too many vehicles parked in front of it to make for a worthwhile study.

I am a camera less or will be tomorrow as I am lending my son the 35mm Minolta. I can see me writing instructions by the page and chapter. It is very easy to forget what things are for.

This is the flash sync socket and ‘X’ is for strobes and ‘FP’ is for the old flash bulbs. I don’t know what ‘FP’ stands for probably someone's initials as the wire that connects the lens shutter to the flash is called a PC Cord and the PC bit is someone's initials and nothing to do with computers.

That’s all for today. Tomorrow I was supposed to be helping set a load of lights up but it has been postponed for a few days so I’ll make do with a trip to Aldi, Morrison and maybe Tesco as I’ll have to drive past to get a sack of dog food from the Clydesdale breeding centre.

  1. Aw hat exactly was your mistake, Adrian? Were you looking for something alcoholic? Perish the thought.

    1. Frances, no I am a strict Methodist so don't drink these days. I could quite happily settle down with a few friends and a bottle and talk rubbish, I'll stop being a Methodist and get wrecked tomorrow. Tobacco is my only vice but I do try to stop for seven days a month. Five days is easy but days six and seven are very difficult. I think it's because i know I'm getting close to roll up time. Duty free roll up time if I can find any.

    3. Margaret, it is only since the price went up again that I decided to try and cut down. The country is now awash with duty free so there is no real need to bother.

  2. No baccy, no booze...(and no money!!) what do you do to relieve all those pent up daily strains and stresses, or shouldn't I ask?

PC = Prontor-Compur "Prontor" has its origins in the Italian word "pronto", meaning ready (and was a leaf shutter made by Alfred Gauthier "Compur" is derived from the word "compound" the "Compound" was a long-lived series of leaf shutters made by Friedrich Deckel

FP = FP sync was used with FP (flat-peak) flash bulbs designed specifically for use with focal-plane shutters.

    Happy shopping...[;o)

    1. Thanks Trevor. I shout at the dogs. They take no notice.
Thanks for the information. I ought to have looked it up or remembered.

    1. John, It's only an old building and it's falling down. I do get sick of Tv aerials and rubbish bins.

  4. FP might stand for Faster Pussycat, a rock band from Los Angeles, California.

    1. Marty, I really wish I could do your composite pictures but I am not an artist. I love digital but like waiting for exposers on film. I spend ages thinking in low light and trying to imagine the shot that the camera will see. It is still magic. ost of the time it is rubbish but now and again the camera sees what I didn't.

  6. I suspect that I'd really struggle if I had to return to an old film camera, Adrian - not that I was ever skilled in that area in the first place, but I did have a few images published in 'the old days'.

Great studies of the old distillery. Good to see you recording history before it disappears forever.

    Best wishes - - - Richard

  8. I love the distillery shots, and I'd say you have good discipline to cease your smoking for 7 days each month! Cheers :)
