ABOUT ME

I live in a camper van with a West Highland Terrier for company.
My passion is creating images but it is a work in progress.

HAIRCUT.

The dogs are looking very smart having had a haircut last Friday.

Before.

After.

Today I am back at the van and have been butterfly snapping.

Before I get to the butterflies this magnificent creature crawled out from under a load of boards, I had a problem getting pictures as I had a 400mm lens and it will only focus at about two metres. I got her to crawl onto my hand but she flew away and landed in a flower pot.
She then flew back again.
It's a Horn Tailed wasp. They are massive but can't sting or at least I don't think they can. I wish I'd had a macro lens with me but at least I've seen one and not just the holes they bore in fallen pine logs.
Lots of butterflies about but I'll show just a couple of Peacocks.
I like how this one turned out.
Have fun, I'll see what else I can find and be back soon.

    1. Marie, I ought to have joined them for a trim.

  2. All looking very dapper...I'm guessing you get a good deal on three haircuts then?

That's a bugger...Sod's law, something good comes along and you've got the wrong lens on the camera. I always carry a couple of small plastic pots, if something good appears pop it in the pot and photograph it later.
(btw - Giant Woodwassp Urocerus gigas)

I like what you've done with the last shot, looks good.
    Happy hunting!..[;o)

    1. Trevor, I will investigate having my hair trimmed.
Yes Horntail or Giant Woodwasp. A very impressive beast.
Lots of butterflies around this year but limited to Whites, Red Admirals and this week the Peacocks.

  3. The dogs look very smart, Adrian, and I guess they appreciate having a shorter coat in the summer (if we ever get one!).

I too think that last shot is a real cracker.

With my best wishes - - - Richard

  4. Those dogs are getting to be proper posers, aren't they? They obviously know how good they look after their trip to the beauty parlour.

    1. Pauline, they usually pose. They aren't bad dogs for the most part.

  6. I have a quite irrational fear of wasps unless there is a camera lens between me and them and then I know they can't see me. Having said that just before I read this post I had a very unexpected visit from a wasp in the house. I very rarely see them here although there are plenty in Stornoway I believe and we did have a few out at Coll latterly. I still haven't been able to identify it but that's largely because I decided coffee was more important. Good to see the pair all shorn. I wonder what it's like looking through a forest of fur?

    1. Graham, this is a giant Sawfly so safe enough. They do look a little intimidating.
I am amazed they don't go round bumping into things but they seem to manage just fine.
