A NEW ONE.

I took advantage of the weather yesterday. It has been very windy but the weekend was calm and hot. The insects are reasonably cooperative and after years of trying I have found and snapped a new one.
 Large Red Damselfly.
It may not look very impressive, it isn't particularly rare. It has made my summer. It's a Chimney Sweeper Moth. There were about six of these flitting around Hogweed. They didn't seem to be eating it. Possibly they just liked the contrast.
Azure Damselflies. There were hundreds of them.

Several Four Spot Chasers. These are the only Dragonflies I'm seeing but I have a new venue to look at.
A rarity, An Azure Damselfly on it's own.
Enjoy your week and have fun.

  1. A nice selection there Adrian. The Chimmny Sweeper is a good one, there's quite a decent colony of them around here...on the chalk hills. I suspect your Hogweed maybe Pignut, it's flowers and seeds are their larval foodplant....[;o)

    1. Thanks Trevor. I'll check out the Pignut. It wasn't very tall.
I suspect they may be going to make the swamp into an SSI. I met a couple of folk up there who had clipboards.....Never a good sign is a clipboard.

  2. Looks to be a grand area for insect life.

    1. John,
It is wonderful and I rarely see anyone up there. It's a bit damp, soggy and one gets covered in those black storm flies but I can't expect utopia.

  3. That's a great selection of insects, Adrian. I look forward to seeing more of your finds from this place. At least,if they make it an SSI, it'll stop developers from building tower blocks on it!

    1. Richard. I am wary of these folk. No chance of this being developed it's hilly and swampy. There are crickets to snap if I can find the little buggers.
