A FINE DAY AGAIN. (15/01/13)

After a murky start and a light fall of snow the sun came out and it’s been grand.

Alf has a new jacket that fits him, well it fits better than his old fleece. Poor dog could hardly walk in the old one.

I spent most of the morning waiting for the Kestrel. The little blighter was sitting on a post about quarter of a mile away. He had one foray over the feeders and I missed it.

Goldfinch and I hope Siskins.

IMG_0007_edited-1   A Dunnock.

IMG_0008_edited-1   Male Chaffinch.

IMG_0014_edited-1  Female Chaffinch.

IMG_0012_edited-1   Finally another Goldfinch. This taken with a 2xteleconverter.

After lunch I had a walk round Loch Leven. I didn’t take Bertha and a good job I didn’t. Large numbers of Tufted Duck but they were right out in the middle of the Loch.

levenpan150113 Loch Leven.

IMG_0040_1_2_tonemapped_edited-1 As the sun set it was time for home.

Tomorrow I am stopping for a night in Edinburgh. The camp site is just downstream of the bridges so I hope to get a shot of them in the dark.

That’s it for today.

  1. Great set of bird images Adrian. You and Big Bertha seem to be getting to know each other quite well now!

And two superb waterscapes to finish...[;o)

    1. Trevor, I like using it on a bean bag. It is a cracking lens. Weighs a ton but that seems to help.
I look at proper birder pictures and there is room for improvement. T

  2. Very Nice shots Adrian. I like the first one of the Loch, almost looks like a muted HDR shot.
    Beautiful

    1. Shaun, I should have said it is an HDR shot. Three sets of three stitched. With the 5D II it takes a while in Elements9. I used to use an 8GB stick for scratch memory but since Elements9 I can't seem to allocate scratch memory.

    1. I'm still struggling with DOF. I'll get there with you and your ilk as inspiration.

    1. John, I'm being good. Single shot and only 50% in the bin today. It is a heavy lens. Suspect mine is cast iron and not magnesium alloy. It was cheap for what it is.

    1. It gets harder from now on Keith...I'll find a Wren or Firecrest. Then I'll have a go at Blackheaded gulls flapping about in the air.

    1. Peter, they are HDR hand held but I like the lens. It is a zoom 17mm-40mm f1.4. No IS so an old one but it is fine. I prefer prime lenses but this zoom does the job and saves a bit of leg work. It is fast so filters cost a fortune. It's business end is 77mm. I am really a landscape snapper. I have a 135mm f1.2 prime for bands and pubs, again no IS. I wasn't that impressed with it but will give it another airing or two. It's okay to wander with and with and fast enough to stand my 2x teleconverter.

  7. Edinburgh??.....Then you MUST have a good long session in the 'Whiski Bar'! And if you can find them, 'Old Dollar Bill'.

    1. Red, the software is Photomatix Pro. They are finished off in Photoshop elements9.
The majority of my landscapes are HDR.
