DISCOMBOBULATED. (01/01/13)

I am all anyhow today. A friend popped round and we indulged in a little too much campanology. The Bells tasted much better than they sounded. Nevertheless we rang in the New Year.

This morning I awoke to the sound of sweet rain pounding on the roof. Before I had fully come round I’d pinched a half smoked rollup from the ashtray and lit it. Three resolutions down and only three to go, it was not yet six o’clock.

At half eight the skies had cleared  and off we set for a wander. It was short lived…a brisk shower had me limping back to the truck for a jacket. I have pulled a muscle in my right leg…..I blame the Bells ringing.

Out we hopped again. The clouds were thwankin across the sky. Yes it is a real Scottish word. It does not mean what you are thinking…..I for one have a pure mind. It means the clouds were mingling in thick and gloomy succession. ( Another wonderful word from ‘The Horologicon’). I didn’t realise that clouds thwanked. I must check my waterproofs.

I took Big Bertha for an outing. By the time I had her out of the bag and mounted the sparrows had gone so I took a snap of the other side of the valley.

IMG_0003-1_edited-1   It is possible to hand hold it…..Keith did say to me yesterday  that an acquaintance of a friend of a friend hand held his. At the time I was confused, I thought the lens must be far too heavy, I thought the acquaintance twice removed was a thwanker. I decided to try hand holding mine and it works.

Enjoy the rest of the week.

  1. Glad you explained that Adrian, at first I thought you might have picked up a speech impediment for the new year!

I always find whatever it is you've got in your hand it always works best if you can keep a firm grip on it!!...[;o)

  2. Trevor, I woke up this morning and had to find my passport..Couldn't remember who I was, worse still, I couldn't recall who she was. Popped the espresso on and gave her a cup and called her Poppet....Worked a treat for once!

    1. John, it is not to be recommended. It would be all to easy to damage the camera mount.

  7. What a lovely place. The low, side lighting lends a lovely texture to the walls. If this is what you can do with a sore leg, without a tripod and in a thwank, I greatly look forward to the rest of the year's images!

  10. You need a good tripod to mount Big Bertha on. And, you want a good head on it. I love the word "thwanking", lol.

    2. I wonder if you went to the Lensmaster Gimbal, he is very helpful, and gave me a change to the original.

    3. Bob I have a Brembo GH2 waiting for me and a teleconverter, and a drop in polariser. Good job I went for a fast lens.
Couldn't see any difference with the GH3 except for the depth scale. A height scale I can do without when they want £100.00p for it. I'll have a look at the Lensmaster before I part with money. Thanks.

  11. Is it possible to get drunk on any amount of Bells? That to whisky is like Red Bull and Vodka is to a decent cocktail. Give me a decent bottle of Lagavulin, or better still a 30 year old Glenfarclas any day. Still, drinking Bells would explain your bad head. Glad you have lived to see in the New Year.

  12. I was having trouble with my eyes there for a minute. Firstly, I thought you'd been caught in a brick shower. I've had hangovers wherein bricks rained on my head, so it was understandable. Then thwankin, what a fabulous word. Wish I'd known it on Christmas Eve when the storm hit (I love shocking my grandkids!)
