TODAY IT SNOWED. (13/01/13)

Friday I took the dogs for a haircut. I shan’t be going back to this dog groomer. Useless she is but to be fair, considerably better than I am with the horse clippers.

Untitled-1    And After. It’s a good job Alf has a couple of jackets.

It snowed a bit last night but it is wet snow. Not to worry it is white and I enjoy it.

I decided to have a go with Big Bertha, this time supported on a bean bag. The results are mixed but I am getting better…not much but I can see an improvement. I would have been proud of the following had they been shot with the old Sigma lens. It is a very murky dark day.

IMG_0026_edited-1  That is the sum total of the visitors so far today. There is a Sparrow Hawk and a Kestrel and though I sat freezing to death for an hour neither came by for a snack.

Have a great week. I’m waiting for my new glasses so they may improve things.

  1. Poor Alf, that's definitely what you'd call a haircut Adrian...a short back and sides in old money!
Keep them wrapped up and warm for the next few days!!

You're slowly getting to grips with Big Bertha, you'll be a professional bird photographer before long!

I'm also waiting for a new pair of specs to arrive, so I guess we'll both be seeing the world in a different light soon!...take care in the snow...[;o)

    1. He has a fleece and a top coat so he will be fine.
I will have to close the lens down a bit. Focussing is instantaneous but I wait a bit and loose the shot.
      Ridiculous price are specs.

  2. Wow! Alf! A close shave. Poor sod, I bet he's freezing.

The lens is performing well. I like the Sparrow.
    Take care in that snow.

    1. He's okay. It's warm enough in the van.
The sparrow is the best of them. I'll get there one day.

  3. I love that shot of the bird on the red twigs with the snow. Really good! Poor Alfie, he does seem in need of some clothes after the haircut...

    1. Monica, the red twigs usually grow by water and I can never remember what they are called...Keith at Holding Moments knows.

    2. Cheers Keith. I should be able to remember that. Dumb Cluck I am.

  4. The bird shots are fantastic. Every bird photo I take looks just a little dark blob with some feathers.

    1. Deno and Red....If you want to see good bird shots then look at KEITH'S or BOB'S and TREVOR'S.
There are many others equally talented that are not driving a Canon 400mm f2.8. Show me up something rotten they do.

Dog haircuts look pretty good to me.

Red see above for the links.
Not good haircuts but at £45.00p each totally unacceptable.

  6. My favorite is the one of the bird on the red twigs, also. Molly seems to be missing her red tag! They do look quite spiffy :)

    1. Glo, the Sparrow is the best today.
Mollys tag fell off somewhere she now has a new one. A pink heart. I'll take a picture.

  7. You have done very well in the short time you have had the lens Adrian. I think the Goldfinch wants some more seed in the feeder too.

    1. Peter, I have a long way to go. I am still struggling with the switch to Canon. The weather does not help.

  8. It sounds like Molly and Alfie needed a haircut. Yes, and the Sparrow is number one.

  9. Well done Adrian, soon you will get them all tack sharp. Your poor little doggies will be a little colder for a week or two. That is some hair cut, and expensive as well.

    1. Horst, I must get used to the speed of the autofocus. It is as near instantaneous as matters.

  11. I know how the dogs feel, as you may gather from the private school photos in my latest post. The twigs look like Cornus alba, one of the...wait for it...dogwoods! The robin is an excellent shot. Keep warm eh.

    1. Gary, the dogs spent an hour sledging and rolling in the snow yesterday. Our first walk took ages.
      Dogwood....thanks I won't forget it now.

  12. "Shave anna haircut, five bob!"

I like the robin. Wish we had robins here. Well, we do, but they are black (spectacular, but still, black).

    1. Katherine, Robins are attractive little birds and very brave. Another month and the males will start ripping bits out of each other.

  13. Can't believe how much the dogs' haircuts cost! Lucky they look cute when they are scruffy as well as freshly shaved. Keep the poor little buggers warm! Really like the setting for the sparrow, it looks glamourous somehow.

    1. Pauline, she was a ridiculous woman. I can get both trimmed for £30.00p. I couldn't get hold of the normal lady.

  14. Adrian, that bird on the snowy branch is really beautiful (sorry I am no good guessing what kind it is). I'm glad Alfie has a coat.
