BLOODY BLENDER. (01/09/13)

It sounds like a dodgy food mixer but no. It’s software.ice   I’m getting quicker if not better…..Can you decipher this? It says “N’ice” but it was a bit warm when I took it’s picture and I wasn’t fast enough with the camera. I’m just fooling. It isn’t even photography.

This is the first time I’ve achieved any sort of result with the fluid generator. This is one frame of a short twenty frame animation. I hope to be good enough by Christmas card time so that I can treat you to a puddle with Merry Christmas growing out of it in frozen letters. A few twinkling lights thrown in and may be some snow for good measure. The lap top copes with the rendering and baking so that’s the good news. The bad news is that the screen is too small. I’m thinking of adding another monitor. Does anyone know if a single mouse will work two screens?

I hope you all have a good week, now I’m going to rest my brain before I crack up or melt.

    1. It's frustrating and entertaining in equal measure.

  2. That looks pretty good to me, and certainly much better than anything I've ever managed to render with blender.

    1. Mark, it can be much better. It has some very jaggy artifacts which can be smoothed but it alters the texture too much. I'm looking at smoothing, applying a texture and applying bump to that. It's far from simple.

    1. John, like all learning the curve is exponential. I'll keep playing. I've a long way to go yet.

  4. Cool work there Adrian, it's good that the laptop didn't freeze while it was crushing all those numbers!
I guess the next step is to create a class of something to put it in?...[;o)

    1. Trevor, I did make a glass and an ice cube to drop into it but the water kept going everywhere. Out through the side of the glass even. There was something awry with the boundary. Writing this I have just realised what I wasn't doing. I hadn't made both the inner face of the glass and the ice cube into obstacles.

  6. Yes practice makes perfect, Adrian. You Laptop should handle a second monitor. I know mine can and it's an old computer. Have a great weekend.

    1. 3D animation is a whole new world for me. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm enjoying it but it keeps me out of the pub.

  7. it takes a good imagination here to see what you want and then go out and do it. You've got to be artistic and of course you are.

    1. Red, I'm still using tutorials for reference. I have a story line sketched out. I'm doing a bit at a time.

    1. Blender 3D it is Maria. It's free and easy to install. The interface is reasonably friendly and the tutorials are very good.

    1. Cat, I produced something even if it's not immediately obvious what the something is.

  10. Very impressed Adrian. Keep going, I expect even Peter Jackson started off like this.

    1. Peter Jackson the butcher down the road? I don't think so.

Sorry I'm a little slow to day you mean Peter Jackson the Hobbit man.

I'd like to get just good enough to enjoy using it.

    1. Douglas, nothing is impossible. Fluids have to be constrained in a domain box. I just use a cube for that. I'll have a go. I can introduce shapes which if they are labelled obstacles the liquid doesn't affect. It gets very complicated.
