PRACTISING. (01/09/13)

It is the first cool day for ages, it is really chilly. After I’d finished playing with the ice lettering I wandered up to the indoor schooling ring. I thought Blender was complicated. Look at these children._MG_1410

_MG_1333    Not children, they are a bit older than that, teenagers I should say. This a gymnastic sport called Vaulting. It’s a series of movements carried out on a cantering horse. I was very impressed.

That’s all for today.

  2. Hi Adrian, great shots of the Horses and riders. Just home from surgery & recovery hospital. So far so good in my recovery of hip replacement. You have yourself a great weekend.

    1. David, ISO at 1280, aperture f4 and still I couldn't get a fast enough speed. It needed flash but that would have made for a very entertaining morning.

  4. I'M impressed also by the skill of these people. I would have trouble riding horse. I have trouble just getting off the floor let alone stand on my hands. Here they call it trick riding and it's much more western. Whatever, it's impressive stuff.

    1. Red, it goes on here all the time. I've just never got round to watching it.

    1. I'll have to have another go on a bright sunny day. The light is a mixture of natural and mercury vapour lamps.

  7. Adrian, nice change from the nature shots. When I looked at the first one I thought you had been experimenting (aka diving into swimming pool lady), but No, it was all you and the camera. Excellent stuff! Very skillful gymnasts. Thank you for sharing.

    1. Carol, Daliana used a Topaz filter for the diving girl. I'd forgotten about that. I'll have a go in Photoshop.
This was just practice. Good though.

    1. Bob, horses are never happy until they are looking down at you flat on your back.

  10. Very impressive. Is it the teenagers or the horses who are being schooled?

    1. Bob, the teenagers. The horses are schooled every day one at a time.

    1. Grace, dozens of tumbles. If you are riding horses or motorbikes it comes with the territory.
What has only just occurred to me is that they wear no body armour, helmets...Not even goggles to stop sand going in their eyes. Very dangerous in this day and age.

  12. Outraged by these images as you've already eluded to Adrian. Not a hi-vis vest amongst them, no helmets or safety harness, I'm emailing Health&Safety straight away!!!

    1. It never occurred to me that it is an anachronistic carry on. There was no sign of the air ambulance either. Probably just as well...the little buggers would be throwing themselves to the ground for a helicopter ride.

  14. Couldn't you have had a go yourself? I think a green lurex bodysuit would have been the most suitable garb. You could always go back.

  18. YP, I am often here. The stables belong to my sister. I'll investigate lime green lurex...I'll see if they can accommodate my belly.
