HORRID. (13/02/14)

It was supposed to snow from tea time yesterday. It rained for most of the night then snowed heavy wet snow for most of the morning._V0G8077 I took the dogs out and it seemed to be precipitating slush.

_V0G8086 See it’s a disgusting day.

The dogs seemed oblivious and made the best of a bad job.

_V0G8079_V0G8080

_V0G8082_V0G8085 There wasn’t really enough snow on the beach for a proper roll but it kept them amused for ten minutes or so whilst I waited getting steadily more disenchanted.

Tomorrow it looks as if the road up the hill will open so I’ll try and get up into the proper snow for a walk and some pictures.

    1. Pat, they are little devils. Just to add to the joys of the day Alf chased the snow plough. He doesn't chase anything usually with the exception of quad bikes.....It was a small snow plough. I think he got confused.

    1. Cat, the van stinks of wet dog. I'm thinking of converting them into a hat and gloves.

  4. Adrian, those first two pictures are worth a thousand words. You captured it!

I agree with the previous comment on the rest of the pictures. I am in love with your dogs.

I can only sympathize with you about your weather. We have snow here and it is a winter wonderland outside. I'm just hoping my power doesn't fail. It has flickered a couple times but so far, so good. Leo is miserable. He has never seen snow and will not go outside. Instead, he sits and whines and blames me for the weather.

    1. David, it's usually worth taking a camera out. It was this gloomy but to get the camera to see it I shoot 1 1/2 stops under then lift the highlights in Photoshop. Cameras expose for neutral grey.
I'm still waiting for the winter wonderland look. There has just been too much wind.

    2. PS. I once had a cat who used to come on walks with the dogs and me. If the weather was bad he used refuse to go out of the front door and rush to the back door. I suspect he thought there were two worlds. A cat that thinks in 4D.

  5. The pups obviously like to roll in the snow to clean their coats. They are very cute. Slush is not very endearing though is it?

  7. Disenchanted? The pictures suggest a different enchantment - the magic of small-in-stature creatures having a great time.

  12. That looks like a pretty miserable day. Dogs love powdery dry snow. They love to roll in it and take big mouthfuls. Now why can't you find some snow that the dogs would really like?

    1. Red, we are not short of snow a couple of miles away but the wind makes it impossible to walk most days.

  13. hi Adrian. I agree slush is not nice and does not make for good shots however your dogs saved the day and seem to enjoy it.

  14. I am sure that your relationship with the dogs would be fortified if you would sometimes join in with their activities. Besides, rolling around naked in slushy snow sounds right up your street Adrian.

  17. Adrian, you have a talent for redeeming the irredeemable. We received the same disgusting mix of snow, rain, ice, sleet, and various other terms that meteorologists seemingly came up with on the spot to apply to the ugly precipitation visited upon us. Fortunately, we did end up (somehow) with just enough fluffy whiteness to take a few photos of my daughter so that one day I can lie to her convincingly of how we had a snowball fight when she was just shy of two years of age. (I will leave out the part where we spent less than five full minutes outside, out of fear of her catching one of the many foul weather illnesses that keep parents up at night with worry.)

I also hope you don't take offense when I say that I will probably avoid showing my daughter and fiancee these pictures. The elder one has been wanting a dog desperately, and I think she is trying to indoctrinate the younger one as well (she is only beginning to speak, but already she knows a doggie goes "Woofwoofwoofwoofwoof!"). One look at these photos, and any resistance I might put up will be futile!

  18. Nathaniel, It is still snowing here but it's too dark for me to ascertain the precise nature of the snow.
I wouldn't be without the dogs but they are a bit tying. I am taking them to see a steam train today. That should give them something to bark at.

  19. Just to be different I shall mention that it's not snowing here in Hawkes Bay. Mind you it only got to the high 20s today.
