SENIOR MOMENTS. (14/02/14)

It’s been one of those days. It is almost perfect weatherwise. No wind and no rain or snow. Things started falling apart just before breakfast. I was retrieving a bag of muesli from the cupboard when it ripped in half showering the dogs with oats, nuts and raisins. I managed to salvage enough to start the day. I packed a rucksack and we set off to walk up the hill. After about a mile it was getting very icy so I delved in to the bag for my Yaktrax. Whoops I’d left them in the van. I was loathe to risk another fall so we retreated and walked back via the loch. It was a grand couple of hours or so. It was great not to be fighting half a gale.

The camp site is filling up with children. It must be bloody half term again. Don’t this government of ours ever get round to doing what they say they will do. Michael Gove has been promising to make teachers work forty hour days and four hundred day years. Yet here we are barely a month and a half into the new year and the children are swarming around the place.

I settled down to edit a few pictures and as I was finishing I realised that things looked a bit dark. I’d still got my sun glasses on. I had to start all over again.

_V0G8088   Yesterday afternoon.

_MG_2903    This morning.

_MG_2904     Tons of snow on the hill.

_V0G8089      And a bit on the road.  It has been a good day despite a few hiccups.

Tomorrow more snow is forecast. I’m hoping to get into Aviemore to watch the steam train.

For later viewers of this blog I’ll include this picture from Cairngorm Mountain Ltd.            This is the haul rope on the Ptarmigan ‘T’ Bar. It’s near the summit of Cairngorm. You can see a bit of Loch Morlich where I am two thirds up on the far left.

Have a good weekend.

  1. At least you got the shots. I've been trying to get out of the house this whole work week to do some night photography, and rain has been messing up my plans the every time!

    1. Carol, I'm ignoring Valentines day. I made the mistake of asking Pavla to be my Valentine. Not only was her partner standing behind me but she has a six month old baby. I'm not drinking any more falling down water.
Oh go on then. Happy Valentines Day Carol.

    1. Bob we were out in it for the pictures. It wasn't cold at all I didn't need either a hat or gloves. It's the wind that is the bugger.

  4. One of those days Adrian, if things start off badly they never seem to improve!
But you've still managed to give us some lovely snowy images.
And wearing sunglasses indoors?...that's really cool, dude!...[;o)

    1. Trevor, It's not been good, I'll have an early night.
I need the sunglasses for the glare and sun. I thought it was a bit dark inside.

  5. The water is terrific in number 1 but I like the last three best. They are beautiful.

I only wear sunglasses when I'm in the car but then I don't walk outside. I'm pretty sure we Americans have forgotten that is something humans are capable of doing.

    1. David, it's not too bad in the trees but once above them the glare can blind yyou without them. I don't walk far these days. probably between three and ten miles a day. the dogs must do at least three times that looking for things to annoy.

  6. Oh wow Adrian, it looks fabulous up there. As for teachers, I heard the other day that they were going on strike because their hours doing 'extra' work are too long! I think they forget that they get paid to sit on their arses for at least three months of the year during school holidays. Wish I was there with you, I feel several malts coming on.

    1. Gary, it is great up here and looks to be getting better.
I couldn't teach. I used to like children when I was young but when i got to seventeen I grew to detest them. As I recall many of my teachers felt as I feel now so with a bit more brain perhaps I'd have been fine.

    1. Douglas, looking out I would guess there has been an inch or so.
The Reindeer are on the list. I walk past the place most days.
I hope the train is running. I was speaking to someone and he says they often run a diesel service in winter.

  12. Welcome to the club. I promptly forget most things. I also forget what I'm told and what I've done so it gets worse. You have some great photos of the snow on the mountains.

  15. I can't recall seeing the Cairngorms so clearly covered in snow although presumably I must have given the number of winters I have driven through them. Mind you so often you just can't see them for the snow showers, mist and fog and just about every other sort of weather except sun. So it's lovely to see your pictures. As for senior moments you are still an amateur. Asking Pavla to be your Valentine might have been a tad foolhardy though.

    1. Graham, they estimate that there is a good 7 metres above 1500' or so. It should still be around when you return.
Yes very foolish I was overcome by lust. She would be the death of me.

  16. Your hostile attitude towards children makes you sound like The Child Catcher in "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" which is probably the sound your motorhome makes as it trundles around the hills of Scotland.

    1. YP, I can't think of anything much worse than catching one. My wife works as a teaching assistant with special needs children. They are terrifying. I'd prefer training a hungry Polar Bear.

  17. Absolutely beautiful; I particularly like the way you captured the second shot. The trees are like a rustic picture frame, with the stillness of the water acting as a mirror for the scenery above. I confess, I am terrible at photography, which is perhaps why I have always admired the skill so much in others. I have a fascination with parallelism, though, so I think I tend to look for it in the visual arts; what I like so much about the first shot is that it feels like you used the choppiness of the water and, again, the framing of the trees to make the contrast between the first and second pictures so profound. Again, I am no visual artist, so I apologize if I completely misunderstood your intentions - all I do know is that when I see something I like, it speaks to me; when I try to translate that feeling to others, it often comes out garbled.

    Amazing!
