WARM AND WET. (02/02/14)

It's been a grim day, heavy showers of sleet and rain. Tomorrow doesn’t look much better so I’ll catch the bus into Aviemore. I’ll have another look round and see what there is to see.

The dogs have to go out and seem oblivious to the elements._MG_2884     The wind refuses to die down. The ski runs are still shut. I’m hoping that the road will open Tuesday and that a fifteen minute bus ride will take us to the mountains and sunshine. Some hope.

_MG_2883   I am pretty sure that I’ll have to wander south to Darlington for next weekend. I’ll stop on the way Bamburgh seems like a good idea. I have already decided that I’ll come back here, it is a grand place to be.

_MG_2885  A splash of colour in the woods.

_MG_2882                A reflection of a reflection. On reflection this warm weather is getting very annoying. Just to add to the joys of life we called at the pub on the way home only to find that they had no beer. They had beer but couldn’t get any gas on to get it to the pumps. I went to sort it and found three empty gas bottles. I think they need a cellar man. Who swaps gas bottles without ordering new ones or at least ripping the tags off the empty ones? Romanian students…..That’s who. It isn’t their fault, they are paid to look wonderful, pull pints, chat and be friendly not to be cellarpersons. Another month here and were I twenty or thirty years younger I could see myself being fluent in Romanian. I already know….Buna ziua. O bere varog frumusetea mea.

Have a good week.

    1. Laura, me encanta la Cote du Mort. Tengo muchos meses felices caminando allí.
Creo que el tiempo será malo allí también

    1. Monica, this is the first place in Scotland that I have found a sandy beach on inland waters.
I promise I'm not in Sweden.

    1. Laura, it is a lake, I lay down to make the waves look bigger but it is very windy. 50-60 kph winds. I will hold your easel if you promise to paint fast. It is a beautiful place with wonderful light even on wet days.

  4. That second shot is a beauty.

I'm gonna have to Google some Romanian.

    1. Keith I think it means.... 'Hello, a beer please my beauty' They are film stars. Google doesn't help very much. A Czechoslovakian lass wrote it down for me. I tried it on Google and several other phrases but having heard it spoken from the angels mouth I realise Google are not very good.

  5. Beautiful forest images. I really like the second one, and the way the tree line parts in the middle. Beautifully shot.

  7. I can imagine walking around that place, especially as it looks to be mosly flat, I'm over mixing climbing with walking.

    1. Pauline, there are miles of level paths. There are also miles of steep hills to climb so something here for everyone.

  8. Well, it wouldn't be winter if we didn't have some rotten weather. However, it's a worse bummer when the beer won't flow. You are in a beautiful area.

It looks like the forecast is for more rain at low levels.

  9. I think you just called her 'Varog'. Please is vă rog unless I am very much mistake.

Was that at The Old Bridge Inn? 'Cos that's where I was eating when I had my heart attack back in October 2000.

    1. Graham, it is difficult to work out what they say. Even when they write it down.
No it's a new bar opposite the youth hostel. The shop and ski hire has been here for years.

    2. I am acquainted with a couple from Bulgaria who are living in Napier. He is a Structural Engineer and she is a (Bulgarian) lawyer. Their English is better than mine!

    3. Graham, if they have better English than you then they will put me to shame. The problem in the bar is that there is a Czech girl and three Romanians, They all chat together using the occasional English word with a few Scottish expressions thrown in. It makes for an entertaining hour or so.

  11. Number 1 and 4 were the most eye catching for me but I found myself enjoying 2 and 3 more. I love that they focus your eye to center of the picture.

It's been a cold and wet day here - heavy rain off and on. I spent the day at my son's house and came in after dark. Leo was waiting at the door and ran off when I stepped on the deck. I called "LEO" and he came running back. I must look different in the dark. He kind of does too.

  14. If I might speak for the Romanian barmaid - "Nu mă privi așa. Ești destul de mare pentru a fi bunicul meu te bătrân murdar!" So that told you Adrian!

    1. YP, I didn't have to use Google. Pavla was walking the baby and called because young Nicholas wanted to see the dogs. She laughed and laughed and said you call me dirty old man. Growing old doesn't stop me appreciating beauty even if it is wrapped up fit to pass the parcel. Everyone here is wearing more skins than an onion.
Thanks for this. I got a cuddle. Pavla is Czech it must be much the same Hottentot or gobbledygook as Romanian. She says tell you to fuck off, I am nice man but old. She is watching and drinking coffee as I write and says she has two sisters who love snow boarding and gully skiing. Get yourself up here.
