WHERE IS IT. (10/12/14)

The weather is okay despite the forecasters predictions of storm force winds and driving snow. There is the odd gust and there was a bit of lightning last night the only damage I have noticed is a lack of mobile phone signal so I suspect it knocked the mast out. It isn’t a good day for wandering around for photographs as there are frequent and vicious sleet and snow showers._MG_1064      The view from the van.

_MG_1066                                        This is Ben Mhor a fourteen foot high sculpture made out of bits of old bicycles. It was created a couple of years ago by Ewan Lawrie and used to be on the waterfront in Fort William. I don’t know why they re-sited it here. The mountain in the background is Buachaille Etive Mor.

It looks as if I’m in for a couple more days of snow before the sun shows itself. I’m here until Monday so hopefully there will be something to snap.

I’m going for an early siesta as I’d just got back to sleep after the thunder when the snowplough arrived. Fancy snowploughing at three thirty in the morning.

  1. Living in the rough has its disadvantages. Hugs to Alf and Mol.

    1. R. Mac, I enjoy a good storm, this is a middling one just bad enough to be annoying without being fierce enough to be exciting.
They get plenty of hugs and they got some scrambled egg for breakfast.

  2. So you're in Fort William then? Not the best place to be if the weather gets as bad as it is predicted. I guess the snow ploughs need to be out early to get the roads ready in time for the morning traffic. We've had some hum dinger storms over the last few days with more to come too. Awful humidity too. Poles apart eh ?

    1. Helsie, yes poles apart. We have a maritime climate so Fort William not ten miles away as the crow flies will be basking in sunshine. I'm at a thousand feet above it and getting slushy snow.

  3. Love your winter landscapes. If you try cooling them down, I think they would also look good. But these here have a charm as well.

    1. Mersad, it's just different. I tried dropping the K value from 6k to 5k and it wasn't for me. I use the clarity slider at about #40. That changes the colour balance as well or it seems to.

  4. Well, you got the snow you wanted. Hope it doesn't cause too much chaos there.

    That's a great looking sculpture.
Maybe they could do some more with the cyclists that seem to disregard traffic laws; or is that too unkind?

    1. Keith, everything seems to be running normally. The ferries across the Minch are cancelled.
Squashed cyclist sculptures I'll suggest it.

  5. Adrian, maybe the snowplough was just practicing for when the proper snow arrives, I'm sure you'll get your photograph opportunity before too long?
I like the sculpture...some people are just too talented!...[;o)

    1. Trevor, I liked it from a distance but I'm not sure about it close up.
There is only an inch of snow. Maybe four inches now but they haven't ploughed since this morning. They'll be waiting till I nod off.

  6. Great looking sculpture, I wonder if it's been moved because there is a mountain called Ben Mor in Fort William racking my brains now but canons were placed on it to shoot down at Fort William, my memory sucks.

    1. Douglas, there may be a Ben Mor near Fort William but the one I know is north of Ullapool.
I'll get to like the sculpture but am in two minds at the moment.

  8. It looks wintery where you are but at least the snow plow came by. It is amazing what you can make out of old bicycles isn't it. Stay warm,

    1. Gillian, if it doesn't thaw they could be skiing here next week. It is good considering it's made from scrap.

  9. What interesting hills!
Snow has no clock and fortunately the plow drivers don't, either.

    1. Joanne, I agree, the roads have to be ploughed.

  10. That's an interesting sculpture. I like when people can make art out of junk. We're expecting some winter weather here, also.

    1. Hilary, you have serious winters where you are. It is much warmer here.

  11. Well I'll be passing you somewhere tomorrow (if things go to plan) as I traverse the country from Callander to Uig on Skye via the A82.

    1. Graham, the ferries were cancelled today both Harris and Lewis sailings. The A82 looks clear, I can see headlights on it.
Call in for a coffee if you have time. There is a cafe here open from 9am till 4pm or if you are getting the late sailing then you can sit in the van. My mobile isn't working but e-mail is. adrianwrd@gmail.com

    2. I'm still trying to figure out what the arms are made of in the damn statue. Yes the statue is interesting . I always like to think about what the artist was thinking.

    3. Red, I think the arms are flexible air ducting.

  13. The snow scene looks very peaceful to me. And the statue just makes me smile. I immediately thought of lazy winds that rip right through you. Looks like a strong wind came along and whipped everything away except the bones. I really must learn to appreciate art more.

    1. Pauline, I am still in two minds regarding this sculpture. There looks to be lots more snow this morning. I'll see when it gets light.

  15. Well I love that Ben Mhor sculpture. Brilliant! I see he's tied down securely. And I love the eccentric, off-the-wall thinking that hatches public art like this. Nice one.

    1. YP, I am slowly getting to appreciate him more. I did Google Ewan Lawrie but can't find anything about him. If it stops snowing I'll take some strobes down one evening and light him up with a bit of coloured flash.

    2. I have heard you like flashing Adrian.

    1. Margaret, the funny thing is that this morning there was about a foot of snow and he didn't bother ploughing.
