TIME. (09/08/15)

Today I have a bit of video and the hours it's taken have left me wondering whether it is worth it. This is the set up.

Canon 5D II with 100mm macro lens at 1:1 and a LED ring light. The flower is held in a light stand and on the whole it was satisfactory. Here is the video.

Have a great week.

  1. You have quite the setup, and it yields good results. Not knowing anything about ring lights, I didn't realize they were constant and not flashes. At least, I presume they must be constant for a video.

    1. John, the LED ring lights are constant and cheap. The strobes are expensive but obviously no good for video.

  2. I thought it was worth it Adrian. The second bug on the video is real curiosity though.

    1. Douglas, it is a small larva or caterpillar. What it will grow into I don't know.

    1. YP, I'd have to make the video longer and it was long enough.

  5. Hello Adrian,

    1. Kovacs, I hope you had a good time. It is a grand lens. I usually use the MP-E 65mm for small creatures.

  6. You had the two flies set up as if they were on stage and the flower petal was the stage. Nicely done. Videos may be a lot of work but the results are awesome.

    1. Red, thanks. The flies come and go which is the problem. One of many problems.

  9. Tina, ring lights are cheap. They are okay for video but no good for macros shots. Studio lights would be better. I don't use a tripod for outside macro but hand hold and pray.
