HORSEPOWER. (10/05/16)

The weather is perfect but maybe a little too hot. Sunday there was a thick mist early on but it soon burnt off to be replaced by a heavy rain shower. It didn’t wet me as I was back having breakfast. I have a new project which is macro the movie. The sun is bright enough to stop the lens down and hopefully get enough depth of field to make it worthwhile. The miner bees are out along with a few hoverflies and grass spiders. I’ll have an hour or two playing today and see what I get.

SORREL.

For the past couple of days I’ve been playing with titles. I now have perfect sparkles whizzing round an immaculate helix but with the lettering and everything else my computer was stalling. There had to be a limit; I spent ages trying to lose vertices and anything else that uses a lot of memory like glass shaders and other esoteric things. I then had a senior moment and thought to render the lettering and lighting as one pass then do the sparkles as another. Stupid me, Rendering is basically converting 3D to 2D so it just popped the sparkles on top of the letters. I have baked the animation and that helped but what I really need is a bigger GPU. More Horsepower is required.

  1. I love the 3 trees in the misty morning image and the close up of the Larch needles. I have put the video of the Black Guillemots walking on today for YOU! Enjoy.

  2. I'm finding that I need more horsepower too Adrian though fortunately my computer has plenty. Good mist shots. You can tell its scorchio here: I can't see the mainland for the sea mist instead of the rain.

    1. Graham, I bet I could stall it. We expect too much from such tiny machines. Scorchio here again today.

    1. Marie, I take a snap or two most days. Today being the exception so far.

  4. Between what I imagine are almost endless hours sitting in front of your computer, I'm pleased that you manage to sneak out with the dogs and get some great images, Adrian! The first one is very atmospheric!

I think you're probably still getting hot weather there - we've got a day of almost continual rain after a couple of scorchio (what a brilliant programme that was!) days. It's still relatively warm, however.

    Best wishes - - Richard

    1. Richard, on a normal day I will spend about three hours out walking and up to twice that on the computer in two hour stints.
I think the weather is set fair for the week but it is too windy for macro at the moment.

  5. Glad you're getting some warm and sunny weather Adrian...it's grey and wet here today.

    1. Trevor am just in, the only thing in bloom and attracting anything was what I think is a Pyrocanthus it has lots of orange flowers and leaves like miniature holly ones. I picked a stem with open flowers and taped it to a bit of re-bar. There weren't many insects and only one landed in frame and then at the bottom corner. I think the movie was a silly idea.

  7. mist? What is that?:) Rain? Never heard of it:) You know it's funny. Both are very challenging. too much sun or too much gray wet fog can be a real challenge. I put up my shades on the camera to keep the pics from getting overexposed or washed out with light. And sometimes that doesn't even work. You live in a beautiful region. The primrose shot is awesome. Like a fantasy shot.

    1. Chris, even here the light is getting a bit harsh. It's nice to feel warm for a change.

    1. John, I'm not really into full macro mode at the moment. There are a few insects about so it won't be long.

  10. You will have to build an exercise wheel and get two dog power to help out.

    1. John, it would be a waste of time. The dogs are too contrary; one would run one way and one the other then when the met at the top fall down in a heap.
