STILL SCORCHIO. (07/06/16)

I can’t remember when it last rained but as I write this I can hear thunder so it looks as if summer may be about to spoil itself.
I have a few more insects but nothing really exciting.

I think this is a Sawfly but I haven’t ID’d it yet. The same goes for this.

This is a Slug. I only show it as they are not easy to photograph. If I touch them they not only put slime all over my hand but they also curl up and you can’t see their faces.

This morning I found a moth and it was tame.

I am going to guess at Paracorsia repandalis. I found it quite quickly as there are hundreds of moths to choose from on THE BRITISH MOTH SITE.
Tomorrow I will see if the new foal will pose for you. I’ll try and remember to swap lenses or you won’t see much of it.

  1. Some fine photography here, especially the first two for me.

It has been droughtish here for a month and a half, but we've had a bit of rain recently.

    1. John, it is just a matter of catching them dozing. Luck really.

    1. Marie, slugs are or can be quite attractive but to get them to have a look at the camera is both messy and time consuming.

    2. I believe you but yuck just the same!

  3. I agree, yuck to the slug but the moth is lovely. For some reason I really like moths, especially ones like yours with soft, delicate colouring. Look forward to foal photos.

    1. Pauline, it is very dull today so i will save the foal until we get some sunshine.

  4. Our (two days of) Summer certainly broke here yesterday afternoon Adrian, with a massive 90 minutes of torrential rain (localised flooding)gusty winds and continuous thunder and lightning. Damp, grey, 15° and windless right now.
Nice set of macros..the second one looks interesting, not sure what it is though.
Your moth, I think, is a Sandy Carpet Perizoma flavofasciata ...[;o)

    1. Trevor, we had weather warnings here but it missed us. I could hear thunder and we got a bit of rain but nothing to worry about.
      Thanks for the ID.

  5. Another grand selection Adrian. Like the flies but you are welcome to the moth, I'd rather have the slug.

    1. John, I love it when the insects start to show. I am seeing Speckled Wood, small white and Orange tips but they aren't settling.

  7. I detest slugs but it is a good pic because, as you say, they are difficult to photograph.

    1. Graham, they are not something I like but it seemed an opportunity for a quick snap.
