YOU CAN’T CATCH ME. (26/06/16)

It’s been a funny day today. I noticed yesterday that the Mayflies are hatching out or whatever it is they do so this morning when I went to check the new pigs hadn’t been doing their Houdini impersonation I tried for some pictures with conspicuous lack of success. Finding the pigs without food to tempt them is a nightmare of a job as there are so many places for them to hide.

The first two were easy they were by the gate.

Then it got harder, here’s another only nine more to locate. I’ll show you some more when the light is better. This is pig heaven, several acres of mixed scrub and grass, lots of stuff to dig up and snuffle in.

I did get a couple of Mayflies but didn’t find any parked for macro.

I took these with a 400mm lens with a 20mm extension tube. I’ll see if I can think of a method to get clearer shots.

I was listening to Janis Joplin as the sun went down and looked up to see this beauty.

These are the best Deer pictures I’ve ever snapped. Perfect light and a stag in wonderful condition.

Have a great week.

  3. Hard to imagine better deer shots than those. He's magnificent - and even more so in action. The pigs sound happy. Hope so, anyway, I'm quite fond of pigs, delightful animals.

    1. Pauline, I like pigs, they are always curious and generally very friendly. Bacon and roast pork is also wonderful but don't tell the pigs.

  5. Brilliant shots of the deer Adrian.
From what I have seen abut Mayflies they seem to keep flying until they drop.

    1. Margaret, I only went to check as a camper had walked through and I wanted to make sure the gates were shut. They are little devils for wandering and they do so much damage if they get where they shouldn't.

  8. Adrian, I know where you can get help with those pigs...I understand there's a man who, after receiving a recent blow to his ego, has found himself unemployed..I believe he's well practiced in the art of 'pig wrangling'..you should give him a call!

Look in the long grass for 'perched' Mayflies..you did well to get the flight shots...and some cracking shots of the Roe Deer too...[;o)

    1. Trevor, these are well brought up pigs and i wouldn't want him to give the impression that all humans are pervy.
I had a look everywhere but will have another go but it is very windy today.

  10. Oh. So pigs really do disappear and one has to go looking for them. I stand corrected!

    1. Monica, you can hear them but getting a count is harder. They live in a couple of arks, like sheds and sleep there at night or when it rains. It is easy to count them then.

    2. Un, deux, trois... ;) (I was just amused to find these pigs after having posted recent complaints on my own blog about all the 'cochons' appearing and disappearing in my French 'Duolingo' lessons)

  11. The pig pics are precious, friend A. ... reminds me when neighbour farmer Joe dropped off a sow one day in my barn ... just like dat ... and 2 weeks later she had 11 piglets ... so here I go, buy a feed grinder and make a separate pen for the lil ones and all ... and still the lil guys got out and were running free in da pasture ... picture dat: High tall grass and only 11 lil flopping ears of lil running piglets in order to detect them, while momma in her pen goes wild and wilder ... fun ... smiles ... anyway ... that's summer in Alberta ... smiles ...Love, cat

    2. Cat, no piglets here but pigs are very entertaining. I'm surprised you stopped keeping them.
