TRYING.

It's been a funny old weekend. I have been looking at DaVinci Resolve. It is virtually free and a very powerful video editor, it does VFX or after effects and has a colour grader. I downloaded it and installed it perfectly as far as I can tell but it won't open any further than the splash screen. I suspect that my NVIDIA GTX 660 GPU is a CUDA or two short of a full picnic. As I don't really understand what all the abbreviations mean I'm not in a position to be sure. What I am sure about is the fact that my task manager is a lying devil....It says the programme is running like clockwork. Little tinker.

I have made another video on colour popping in Blender. I really hope you like it and flood the post with comments saying so. If you don't then I'll just keep posting links to this post until you do. I write in jest, unlike a fellow blogger I'm used to rejection.
Here is Mondays offering, Click Bait totty included.

This will have to be watched on YouTube for it to be even remotely entertaining but it's up to you just as long as comments reflect the positive side of life. Remember I'll sqweem and sqweem and throw all my toys out of the pram if I you don't cooperate.

  1. You make it look so easy though I have no doubt it has taken a great deal of experimentation and cursing to get there. It is very effective. The way effects can be linked in any order makes the process very versatile. It is similar to the way software music synthesisers work by linking the processes you wish to use.
Can't beat a bit of eye candy to draw in the punters.

    1. John, I'm still cack handed. The video is sped up a bit. The audio is done after the first render. I suspect many folk do this though it took me a while to realise it would make me look far more competent than I am. I have used node editors for ages for materials but am just starting out with them in compositing. It's fun but a young persons game.

  2. This is a heads up for you, Adrian. There is a nice lady named Kate who lives in New Zealand whose blog, delphine-angua.blogspot.com, has a couple of recent posts filled with photographs of insects in Sweden (she was visiting her son there). If you are not aware of Kate's blog, I thought you might want to take a look, knowing how you take an occasional picture of insects yourself.

    1. Thanks for that Bob. She has been here and left comments but when I tried to see her blog the posts finished back in the dark ages. She has found some good insects, pity non are identified but I'll pop by and show my ignorance.

  3. Well no need to squeem so far as I am concerned. As a long time devotee and ignoramus when it comes to things like Blender when I saw this yesterday morning I suddenly thought "Why don't I use the explanatory videos for some of the simpler things I want to do?" So I did. I have a feeling that this winter a whole new world, albeit a world elementary to you, is suddenly going to open up for me. I have the tools. Perhaps by next year I'll be able to use the to more effect. PS She was a lot more interesting than your average tractor.

    1. Hmm. That should have read "As a long term devotee (of your blog) and ....."

  4. Graham, I really enjoy the howdunits on YouTube. Some are rubbish but most are fine. The problem is that I tend to wander off on a tangent halfway through following them.
There is a new Vengt tractor that comes here from time to time. It would give her a run for the money in the desirability stakes.

  5. I appreciate your art but what I mainly hear myself thinking is how patient you must be and what good eyesight you must have. Remembering all that is what would make me sqweem.

    1. Pauline if the choice is fencing in the rain or messing in Blender then Blender wins by a street.

  6. Been away for a few days, Adrian, so just catching up and found this post. So pleased I did. You've probably convinced me that I should have a look at blender - nothing to do with that rather charming young lady, I hasten to add!

    1. Richard, it is primarily and animation programme but it also has a good video editor, VXF or after effects and a game engine which I've never looked at. The 3D modelling stuff is excellent and I prefer it to Adobe but for accurate stuff like CAD it's not very good. Start out with simple tutorials and it swiftly becomes as clear as mud.
