HAPPY NOW. (01/02/14)

Today feels like winter, the temperature is –3oC, the wind is gusting 40mph and it’s snowing. It’s difficult to tell how much snow is falling and how much it is just blowing about.

I decided to walk up to the tree line but as I got within a mile of it I was having trouble standing in the gusts. I didn’t fancy becoming a hypothermia statistician so after an hour I decided to retreat.

All pictures today were shot in varying degrees of snow fall. _MG_2880         I did see the sun.

_MG_2870  Children sledging. There’s still not much snow at 400m but there seemed to be enough.

_MG_2877 The snow gates are shut. They keep a plough and a blower here and they had been out earlier. It looks as if they have given up for the day so no skiing again.

_MG_2874 On we plodded.

_MG_2873    It was at this point my beard started freezing up and the dogs were collecting snow. I stopped to give the lens a wipe but was worried about scratching it so decided to call it a day for pictures. I should have put a UV filter on but forgot.

Untitled-1

I’ll leave you with another playtime.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  1. As your heart is made of ice, I realise that winter, proper winter is your natural habitat. Even your dogs are snow-coloured. You must invite Michaela round tonight for a hot toddy and to show her your atmospheric wintry pictures.

    1. Proper weather is what I enjoy. Bugger Michaela. I found a Rumanian lass in the forest called Pavla. Like two yards of pump water she is. Unfortunately she is married to another Adrian. My luck has to turn sometime soon.

  2. Snow at last Adrian, it's what you've been waiting for, and the kids seem to be enjoying it too?

The last time I endeavoured to take pictures like this of children sledging and snowballing one of the little darling oiks came over to me and told me that taking photographs of kids meant that I was a paedophile (his words) and he was going to report me to his mum!!...BE WARNED!

I like the 'playtime' image, very effective.

    Don't get too cold now...[;o)

    1. Trevor, there has been too much snow for skiing. They can't get the dozer men up on to the hill.
I never bother, I just say "I'll Fix It For You." Just ask parents, try your hardest to tempt mum and make sure she has somewhere friendly to dump the kids.

  3. The kids are sledging or sledding? Too darn cold for me. My toes are frozen just looking at your pics. How much longer you staying? Seems like you would enjoy a long stay.

    1. Carol, they are sledging on sledges. It's how I spell it. It's my blog.
I want to stay for ever. It is still a bit too warm. Next week I was supposed to be away but I'll take a sicky and stay.

    1. Keith, not enough of it yet. I can climb higher for more. It's a funny warm winter. I'll go high on Monday.

  6. I've not been one for outdoor activites since I was a younun'! However, the scenes are lovely. Lenses must be protected at all costs, for sure. My favorite photo is the last one; the tree looks almost magical!

  7. Norma, even a top end UV filter takes away sharpness. I don't like paying for a lens and knocking it back. I do have filters but hate using them. It wouldn't matter on the last one but it would print postcard size. Most of my others print A3 with no bother.
Not that there is a queue for A3 prints but there again I do charge £400.00p a piece for them.

  11. -3ºC ? I stayed in the Ossian in Kincraig in October for years when the Aviemore Trade Fair used to be on. I've wandered out in the evening in -12ºC and colder so you may get some proper cold soon. Mind you I've also been there in October when we didn't even need a coat.

    1. Graham, all the ski areas have more snow than they know what to do with. There are some good shots on Glencoe Mountain's website.
It is far too warm though and avalanches are far too prevalent.

  14. Good for you to be out in inclement weather looking for photos. It's also difficult to hold the camera still in a high wind. Our high today was minus 13 C

    1. Laura, the children love the snow when it's dry and cold. The wind here is too strong for it to be pleasant above 500m. It was a good day though.

  17. I'm liking the simplicity of the textural depth in the first one. It's weather like this when you need to strike a balance between Art & Statistics !!
