USING UP. ( 05/05/14)

Why does a vegetarian meal look so unappetising. Yesterday I got new fresh stuff in and will enjoy it today. I liked the aubergine I sliced in half, and stuffed with curried egg and rocket and my first wild garlic, of the year, a day ago. I wrapped it in clingfilm as I’d added cheese and didn’t want it to run out in the oven. Beautiful it was but I did burn my fingers getting it out of the film.

The ends of an aubergine and a few dead baby tomatoes, peppers, courgette don’t really ring my bell. Why do I buy expensive vegetables when I'm more than happy with the potato, the carrot or even the turnip at a pinch?

_MG_7382   Vegetable Curry. I’m sure it did me good but it looks bloody awful. It looks worse; it looks regurgitated.

It is dull and damp, we were out for an hour this morning and saw nothing of interest. I’ll post a few images of my favourite view from here.

_V0G8731Moll is stalking something that isn’t there. Two days ago she found a frog and it hopped into the water just here. She thinks it may still be around. She can remember such things but has difficulty recalling what sit, stay or come mean.

Have fun.

  3. Landscapes are amazing. Moll is adorable, and making curry is a good way to use up vegetables (I do it too) :)

  4. Did you eat that?

Of the three, I prefer the first. Nice moody feel to it.

    Good ol' Moll.

    1. Keith, not all of it, just under half. The dogs have more sense and wouldn't go near it.

The light changes all the time. I give it ten minutes or so. I prefer the first.

The dogs like to wander about here. They don't like a lead. They don't need one as they always catch me up.....eventually.

    1. Annie, I have half a pound of dead cow to look forward to tonight. I do eat veg quite a lot but love offal. I don't like oranges but every now and then I crave one. I listen to my cravings.

Not too bad is hardly a ringing endorsement.

I lived with a Vogan...sorry I meant vegan, for a couple of years. She used to go out to mix with kindred spirits once a week and then I used to eat liver and onions with mashed potatoes. Spot on it was. She eventually departed with a fellow vegan and died. Sad, she was a lovely lass.

  7. If you can say nothing else, at least it's a colourful meal!

    1. Trevor, it tasted of old vegetables and posh curry. Next time I'll find an Iguana. they are colourful.
She was in hunting mode. Frog hunting but when she finds them she only gives them a shove up the bum to get them to hop. It's their means of motivation she finds attractive.

  8. Come off it, vege meals are the best, they look amazing, tasty, I love'em. Better than a hunk of dying meat. Apart that, I am a vege.
Loch Ness looks incredible, thanks Adrian.

  11. We need variety to keep up our appetite so it's good to buy different veggies. Now the carrots and potatoes will taste better. You nailed it with the views of Loch Ness.

  12. Your vegetable concoction looks inviting but it would be even nicer with a big fat Yorkshire sausage on top.

  13. Adrian, did you really put cling film in the oven? Really?

    1. Frances, yes catering cling film is oven proof. I will wrap anything in Baco Film. It is available at all the supermarkets. Do not use the packaging film it is cheap but melts.
I have done it for years. My brother taught me and I now use it whenever I have to contain things that go runny or expand when they get hot. I use it for steamed puddings as well. Try it. It saves ages pissing about with greaseproof paper and pleating it and tying with string; covering in tin foil pleating that and tying with string. Wonderful it is. It will stand 300C as that is what I used to use to cook stuffed chicken breasts. It doesn't even char at the edges. You need three layers to seal. It's so cheap use as much as you want. It does hold superheated steam. I always forget when I am liberating my food and burn my fingers. Flamazine is handy if you are also a bit of a dipstick. It cures burns and quick sticks.

    4. Wow! I only asked a simple question, and I get an entire cookery course! And I have never in my life pleated anything and tied it with string. What do you take me for? A housewife? Perish the thought.

Oh, and thanks for the congratulations. You're welcome.
