VERY ‘ARD. (02/05/14)

It is hard working video, harder still if one is a Muppet that has the mental retention facilities of a fruit fly. Bear with me please while I subject you to more playtime. I think I am getting better at this video nonsense. I still can’t get rid of the black bits which YouTube seem to insist on. I rendered this at 1280x720. Is this standard wide format?

We went out goat hunting but couldn’t find the little devils. We walked and walked and all the while the other camera was shooting one frame every three seconds. I had three thousand Raw files to look through upon our return. 15GB that’s a lot. It would have been more but I’d popped a half dead battery in the camera. An impossible task only a few years ago.

I did have a posh laptop built by PCSpeciallists a year ago. Her fans whir fit to fly when I process fifty gigabytes worth of junk. I told them I would do, it does it and they were star bars. I’d love to run this amount of crap through a MacBook just as a test. It took my machine and Photoshop over two hours to process my RAW editing and reduce stuff into a folder fit for video. I have an old hard drive that I plug in for scratch memory otherwise one would be buggered has her majesty would say . I am impressed and happy.

I doubt you will be; what I lack in artistry I make up for in perseverance. I was really hoping to do a voice over on this video. I did get set up for it with a separate audio track but Moll and Alf chipped in every time I spoke. …I deleted me and them. Little devils.

I used to hate editing video but these days; if only now and again or once a week I quite enjoy it. Washing machines and dryers seem in synchronicity with the job. It is one hell of a challenge. These frames were all, all 1557 of them sharpened way over in the P’Shop RAW converter.

Spring in Foyers.

The video says it all. It is the state of my art. Have a great weekend.

SPRING IN FOYERS 3.

I have re-edited the video after much advice from John at MIDMARSH JOTTINGS.

Many, many thanks John. I’d got so I couldn’t see the wood for the trees. Your second suggestion was spot on. I’d typed 1080 and not 1280. I do have a brain but sometimes it switches itself off. If I could afford the salary I’d offer you a full time job as Mentor to the Muppet.

    1. Peter, I enter competitions. I never have a hope in hell of winning but it is the wanting to know that I love. I have so much processing power at the click of a mouse. A pity I can't turn it into a 3D mega bucks earner.

  2. You're a genius Adrian, I couldn't do that.

    1. Bob, genius to one man is lunacy to another.
I hope you wouldn't consider doing that to that many RAW images. I look at life positively. My clothes are clean.

  5. Awesome video, to bad it is so short. ;-) Looks like the weather is working for you right now.

    1. Horst, thanks, I wonder just how many frames I can handle. If I cut the timelapse around stills I could duplicate it and stretch things out. The human eye and brain is very good at recognising repeat patterns though. I suspect your criticism is unique. Mostly they are far too long.

  6. You chose a lovely day to make magic. I watched it several times just to see the shadows of the clouds pass over the mountain and see the colours in the trees change. Well done!

  7. I'd say this is a lot of hard work! I prefer the point and shoot stuff.

    1. Red, like most things it is easy when you know how. It is time consuming in much the same way as a roast dinner is to cook. The machine can be left to get on with it while I do laundry or whatever.

  8. I love them both! But had a nasty shock because at first I read that you had come back to "raw flies", which made me wonder what kind of person would cook flies (though working in Zambia, we encourged our patients to eat ants, which I suppose is just as bad).

    1. RAW FILES Frances.
I used to encourage my little sister to eat worms. I seem to remember it was frowned upon though.

  10. Love this, a time lapse video that is truly relaxing. Is you intervalometer a Canon brand or generic?

    1. Maria, I'm slowly getting to grips with the CS6 workflow.
Tomorrow is not looking too good so I'm thinking of bringing a flower inside and timelapsing it opening.
The intervalometer is a Canon one. I built one using an Arduino but couldn't get the bugs out of it

  11. There's definitely something very soporific about time lapsed clouds watched late at night with a good cognac.

    1. Graham, there should be an app for such things. I sleep like a log after a few hours of this malarkey.

  12. Such a pain taking so many pictures. I've just come back from SW Scotland with 1600 ... wouldn't load onto the computer, needed help to sort it, done now but the editing process begins.
Looks like your video has a wildlife interlude.

    1. Jay, once set up the camera just clatters away. The write speed on the 5D II is about 50/60. I use a card twice that speed as it downloads the images in a few minutes.
