It dawned cloudless and flat calm this morning. I went looking for the Dipper but the air round about the burn was thick with midges.
It isn’t a place to hang around waiting. I’ll have a go at increasing the shutter speed and use an extension tube. I hate Midges but would like a crisp close up of one flying.
These are two views of the Kyle of Durness. I took them yesterday whilst on my fruitless Puffin safari. The first is taken from Balnakiel Bay and the second from Meall a’ Bhuic which is the headland the Puffin visit. What is the plural of Puffin? I should know after dragging my tar laden lung and a bit this far; uphills, downhills and soft sand. I’d got a right lather on and was puffing like billy-o.
This week I had a black mark on my copybook from a respected teacher of the English Language. SIR, SIR, MR YORKSHIRE PUDDING, PLEASE SIR. For those not familiar with his prose, photos and verse you can click on the link for a look. I find him a touch pedantic at times but don’t tell him I said so. I never arse licked teachers whilst at school so I find little reason to start now. The following video is dedicated to him. I used both Upper and lower case in the title. Don’t any of you dare call me a brown nose. I’ll be cross.
I like criticism. I take it to heart. To be honest, I just like the attention. I have had a couple of ‘Try and amend your ways.’ This week. I do listen and attempt to take your advice. GRAHAM, HE WHO BREEDS FISH. Graham mentioned that it was wrong to feed gulls. I agree but it is fun. Most things that are fun are bad. No wonder I have trouble sleeping. Whilst composing this post I noticed this cretin feeding Black Headed Gulls. I shouted….. “STOP IT! They will eat Grahams fish. They will gobble up children and very occasionally real people.”
I don’t think he understood because he fed them again.
SEE!…. Sorry Graham but I tried my hardest to stop him. I stopped short of physical restraint, his wife was enjoying the show, seemed a shame to spoil her fun. None of the children here have been attacked, more’s the pity….There is time yet.
Have a great weekend. Keep those comments coming, they inspire me to attempt perfection.
Midges :)
ReplyDeleteCarol, they are tiny biting flies. Like your spiders and salt water crocodiles they are best avoided.
DeleteBuen video.
No problemo.
Is the header photo progressive(?) jpg or non repeating gif? I notice that the title gradually builds up in colour density but the process doesn't seem to repeat.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed the video. Much better than a still shot for that type of thing.
John, it's a non repeat GIFF. I may do it to do it longer but I was subtle for once. I think I may leave it as it it is the top left corner needs a polish up but I'm happy few notice it fades in. Really restrained EH?
DeleteShot through the 100/400mm Canon lens. It s light enough to carry and does video once focus is locked in good light. I'm not really a video man but am finding it more attractive I fancy the 500C. Roll on the lottery win. Shut up Adrian. I would go for the RED camera if I had the money.
YoU dO mAKE me laugh's aS u canned sea english was my favoorite subject at skool thank god for autocorrect.
ReplyDeleteYou need one of those portable midge nets similar to a bee keepers outfit
Duglas, thank god I has fownd a kindred spirit. I ave alwaze had truble with spelling.
DeleteNo, I need fly spray
It is true, feeding any birds (or animals) go against their natural process.
ReplyDeleteHaddock, good to see you back. I'd rather you took my side but not to worry.
DeleteI know that this will seem unbelievable to you Master Adrian but the plural of "puffin" is "puffins". All you have to do is add an "s" to "puffin". I am sorry if this sounds a touch pedantic but I am just trying to help you with your well-documented grammatical challenges. By the way I would have slept easier with a capital "E" in "End". In the video, your dogs seemed so happy together - I think it is great that you have two dogs and not just the one.
ReplyDeleteYP, Puffin is just one of those words like sheep that seem fine without an 's'.
DeleteI missed the 'E' out by mistake. I ought to write own the text before I start. It's easy to leave letters out or even use the wrong ones when editing video. There is so much else going on. Key Frames, transforming, adding text styles, adjusting kerning and fades.
I'll try harder in future.
They do get on well. Too well sometimes.
Beautiful photos you have done. And, it is wrong to feed them during summer time, but, it's fun.
ReplyDeleteBob, not you as well. Is this kick an Adrian day?
DeleteSomehow contrition just doesn't sound right coming from you Adrian. The fact that your tongue is nearly poking through your cheek makes it slightly more believable but..... You're a Grumpy Old Man about a lot of things and your blog would be a less interesting place if you weren't. I'm just a G O M about a few things and feeding seagulls is, as you say, one of them!
ReplyDeleteGraham, what do I have to do to convince you of my abject contrition?
DeleteSurely you jest about old teachers taking a run at you and trying to improve your well, er English. I like to hear bloggers use their own voice in their blog. You do use your own voice and all sorts of vocabulary that I've never heard before.
ReplyDeleteRed, I'm glad you are slightly bemused by the criticism.
DeleteThe reason you see words you haven't heard of is twofold. Some I invent and others I just misspell.
Did you get your e-mail? I sent it to reddkline@gmail.com.
Yes, I got the email. thanks.
ReplyDeleteMidgies in my opinion are the worst thing in waiting for the light in a better Scottish Highlands shot !
