I have waited nine hours for this to upload. At six this morning it looked like twenty eight hour job. I wrapped my dongle in a plastic bag and gaffer taped it outside. It’s not nice having ones dongle out in freezing rain. It’s not easy editing sound and video but I did my best. There are bits of this I am proud of but they are put into the shade by the majority of it where I wish I could have done better. I am far too slow and incompetent but I keep learning. I could not synchronise the sound but only after I started the upload did I recall that the video was shot at 25fps and rendered at 29.97fps. I did try but near enough is not good enough. The sound was recorded real time in monster WAV files on a Zoom Handy stereo recorder and edited in Audacity. The Poppy images are by TREVOR MORGAN though I doubt he will be totally happy with what they have gone into.
Thank you to all those that died in order that I can fool about.
Good job, Adrian. Right now, I'm watching our ceremonies on television here in Ottawa. Such an emotional time.
ReplyDeleteHilary, I have so much to learn about video. I wonder if I ever will. It is and the number of folk on sticks here was frightening.
DeleteYou've done a good job here Adrian, I'm afraid I couldn't get into editing and posting videos, I found it much too time consuming!
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice turn out of people you had there, it's good to see that people still care.
Thanks Trevor, it takes hours; 8 till midnight last night then three till six this morning. I spent hours dumping crap on Sunday night. It is why folk use editors both for sound and video. It is not art but it is a skill. A skill I have yet to master. The audio is just as bad if not worse. The easy bit is pointing the camera.
DeleteThank you for the poppies, that bit worked out okay. I am grateful. File size was perfect it allowed me to zoom in post production.
Hopefully this time next year I will have got better. Most of the time is spent waiting. I use a non linear editor so have to render then drop the rendered bits together, five times in this case. It is a pain but I have yet to see Mac folk do it any quicker or to be fair post anything this complex.
Nice one Adrian.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bob.
Delete*salutes* for our veterans
ReplyDeleteI'll second that R.Mac.
Deleteit' really nice...
ReplyDeleteThanks Laura.
DeleteYou've picked up the somber tone of the remembrance.
ReplyDeleteRed, the weather set the tone.
DeleteI very much doubt that 8,252,517 men and women died just so that you could play around with your dongle.
ReplyDeleteYP, they definitely didn't.
DeleteHi Adrian You did a great job there. As you know I do take video clips and I do know just how much time it takes to edit and proceed them althogh I am not up to your standard. So well done.
ReplyDeleteMargaret, I still have much to learn.
DeleteI hope you managed to see the ram while in Moffat!
ReplyDeleteJohn, I did. I also found you a couple of post boxes.
DeletePOST BOXES
Houston I have a problem, this is the second video from the blog that doesn't seem to work for me. I'll check it out on my PC when I get home.
ReplyDeleteShould say doesn't work, when I hit play nothing, it's like a jpeg
DeleteIt works here. It took so long to load that a bit may have been left out.
DeleteIt works on home pc, good to see in the video the range of ages of the people attending. On BBC2 last night there was a really good programme called Our Teenage Tommies, all about the underage kids that fought, check it out very good and moving
DeleteAre you using a tripod?
ReplyDeleteMaria, yes tripod and 100mm-400mm lens. I have the fluid head on the tripod.
DeleteThe video portrayed a moving and multi-generational tribute to those to whom we owe so much. Well done.
ReplyDeleteThank you Graham, I am coming to the conclusion that, shooting video, recording sound. Then editing them is a multi-person job. I like doing title sequences.
Deleteit would also help to have a spotter as it's all too easy to miss bits while concentrating on exposure and focus.
Fitting tribute and great vantage point.
ReplyDeleteParked nearby the memorial 18 months ago in the pouring rain, next time I'll give it more thought as a result of this post.
Jay, I got there early and set up on the Ironmongers steps.
