PLAYTIME. (17/11/14)

I wonder when this rain will stop. I am sick and tired of getting wet twice a day. I was moving to Eyemouth but the field I was going to stop on is a swamp. I am staying here in Melrose for another week. I can’t see the point in wasting diesel just to see a different bit of wet countryside. Melrose has plenty to look at and if I time the dog walk right I can chat to the yummy mummies collecting their issue from the primary school next door.

I have been playing again. I decided that it would be interesting to pop an audio player into the blog so that I could talk to you, post bird song, cows mooing, dogs barking, etc. I found various bits of HTML code and chose one from a company called CINCOPA. It looks a smart set up. They have varying skins for their player and also host audio, video and photos for nothing which is always a good start.

I compose my posts in LiveWriter so can’t access HTML stuff from there nor are there many plug-ins for it. I thought I’d got it all sorted by using the Layout and Composer in Blogger Desktop. Everything was going Tickety Boo.

I thought it was but when I did a test post the audio player didn’t show up but what I’d called it did. I called it ’Adrian Speaking’. I’ll have another go this afternoon, there’s summat there. The code was there and, give or take an inch, it was where I wanted it. It was showing underneath the comments box but that was, on closer perusal, where I’d pasted it so not at all surprising really.

I can’t work out what is wrong as there is a URL for the player and it’s skin and another for the content. I checked that I hadn’t got too many http//s; no just the one. Many link boxes include an http// and then when I copy and paste URLs I get two. It never works with two. More is not better when it comes to computers.

I have been saying that I wish I knew what I was doing for so many years now that I think I’ll just accept that I’m a dumb cluck and use my tried and tested method of trial and error. Google are very understanding and do give me a test blog which nobody else can see. I can practise practicing my nonsense in private.

This is the code without the URL of my dulcet voice. That goes in the bit that starts <a href=………..>  I hope. If it doesn’t I’ll give it a whirl somewhere else or just use YouTube with a single image for the video bit. I don’t see any pixel dimensions for the player and I would have expected some. It’s all very confusing.

So is this script. I thought all Java and HTML code started and ended an instruction with a < and a >. I must be missing something. I am missing something. I suspect it is half a brain. I suspect this code is something weird.

Here is a picture from last week.

splashchainbridge The Chain Bridge Melrose in a gloomy mood.

Have a great week.

PS. Is there now HTML5? Does Bloogger Blugger OFF read it? Could Googly give a monkey’s bum? I’ll start again tomorrow.

  1. And if you had all our snow it would be a sparkling white bridge, and more snow falling on it.

    1. Joanne, it rarely happens here. I f we get a high pressure sitting over Scandinavia then it will turn very cold. Snow and hoar frost I am praying for. It makes the world seem new.

  2. I also have a practice blog for HTML tests. Good luck with your latest venture in the digital world.

    1. Mersad, I have grammarians reading this. Practice is what I hope you do for law and practise is what you experiment with.....It may be the other way round. Who gives a shit anyway?
I just thought that a bit of compressed sound would add a little to the job. Not a lot but a bit. I have just spent two hours getting nowhere. I'll run it again tomorrow. Practise makes perfect. Practice is perfect or should be. Have fun.

    2. PS. I bet a pound to a shilling that less than 25% of native English speakers would know the difference.

  3. Loveable the Chain Bridge, Melrose. The b/w with a tan running though it.

    1. Tan Bob? You need tanning. This is twenty minutes of art I'll have you know. I only piss about but don't do it for acclaimism. Probably just as well.
      Pissing down here again.

  4. I was keeping up until I got to the part where 'Adrian[s] speaking' then it all turned into a weird language that I couldn't make head nor tail of, and it would appear that you're not too sure either!
You've definitely caught the mood with that image, it's been dark and gloomy here too...[;o)

    1. Trevor, you kept up for longer than I did.
I am hoping to get out later for some arty farty shots.

  5. I don't understand the yellow writing, but I love the bridge (provided I don't have to walk over it).

  6. You will never be bored. You keep finding cool projects to challenge yourself. I read your blog and understand absolutely nothing. I enjoy reading how you can bend yourself out of shape and come out of it with a solution,

  7. Ha.. I just read and second Red's comments. What I do know is that you'll figure it out eventually.

  8. Adrian ~ just use Souncloud ~ they have all the code built in to their sharing icon. Even if you copy and paste it.

    2. Yes there is HTML5 now ~ BTW

    3. Yes Carol thanks. I want something that just drops what I have decided in there and not a load of playlists. There is a way but not without a charge. I'll stick with vimeo or YouTube.
I bet that is what confused me. I was only joking about HTML5 but many thanks
The blighters do it to confuse me.

    4. What is that script? I know a bit of HTML and know more Python. Can't write either but do try.

    5. HTML5 is the new standard for handling multimedia better particularly with mobile devices. Your old HTML tags will still work.

You can share just one audio at a time in Soundcloud instead of a whole playlist. I have used it on my blog a couple of times. My son mixes his own music and publishes it to Soundcloud.

    6. Carol the code looks frightening. I checked it out and realised it wasn't HTML as I know it. It's a big pity that Google don't tell dumb clucks like me what they are doing.
      Many thanks.

I knew we were on HTLM4 but only just sussed that the code looked different '[..].What in the name of heaven or hell are they for?

    7. Carol, I have just spent four hours with this malarkey. Now I know I'm not the brightest light on the tree but have pissed about for ages. Yes I can rip stuff off and pop it onto my Blog. No bother but I don't want to do that.
I want to drop a bit of original audio in every now and again. It;s a right pain. Sound Cloud has more script promoting Soundcloud than Cincopoa does promoting kids music and themselves. I don't want to subject folk to that nonsense. Guess I will have to pay for a website in the long term.

  9. I like that bridge very much.

  10. I've never understood about HTML so I avoid it like the plague. Gloomy, maybe, but this bridge is interesting with its boards, metal and the design at the sides. I notice that your blog list is from my defunct blog Scrappy Grams. You can find me now at Nonnie's Observations- http://nonniesobservations.blogspot.com Cheers!

  11. I haven't the faintest idea what you are on about but whatever it is, it seems to be keeping you busy, doing a look to keep your brain fit and healthy. Maybe I'll understand when the project comes to fruition, maybe not. That bridge appears to be in a very bad mood, I don't want to go where it is leading.

  12. Time to visit "The Ship Inn" in Melrose methinks. A few jars of heavy and some Lamb's navy rum chasers should sort your head out. Then go and lie down in the camper van and snore the afternoon away.

I didn't get any further yesterday and today is worse as I have some pictures to add swirls to. It's not a five minute job.

    1. Graham. I know blogger doesn't support audio. I just thought I could work round it. My thoughts are not big enough or clever enough.

I agree with you. Not sure I agree with Trevor. It was worth a try.
